Re: Jared Polec

Have been watching Jared's progress since he was drafted and am very pleased with it.

At the game yesterday he was going for a hard contact mark and seemed to avoid the contact. But the moment he missed it he seemed to know he blew it and immediately tore after the eagles player to tackle him. Then followed a five minute burst where he was in everything and included 2 huge contested marks. Great to see the attitude:thumbsu:
We all make mistakes but it is what we do after that counts.
Felt he was slightly hampered in his running yesterday so wonder if he is carrying a niggle.

Late in the game I saw him on the bench getting some work done and it seemed as if he was in a bit of pain. Hopefully the week off will help this.

At one stage he looked like a baby giraffe running. Clearly has very low fitness but a half fit Jared is still exciting to watch. He will be copping heavy tags in a few years time

How good is it to have a player that you just know will slot it.

At the very least he is gonna be a really dangerous medium forward. Could see him kicking a bag later in the year.

The mark he went for going back with the flight into an incoming brown (I think) led pack was great. Made up for the previous one where I think he dropped the mark because he bent to the pressure of the contact that was coming.

He's still building the tank on him to compete consistently so will fade in and out of games given his limited pre-seasons. However he certainly has the skills to make a big impact. Very humble guy and just needs to believe he can be great.

Gibbo I remember the run you were talking about. Looked like he was struggling big time but to his credit he gave it everything he had. Just doesn't quite have enough yet but that will come.

After Polec kicked a goal in the 2nd quarter, it was interesting to see Brown give Polec an extended embrace, along with some words of advice. Probably some positive reinforcement for something that Polec is working on.

Browny also had a chat to him before he had the shot on goal. I'm sure spending time in the same forward line as Browny will be invaluable for Jared.

I've seen Brownie in Jared's ear quite a bit. Looks like he has taken him under his wing, which is just fantastic to see. Different styles of players, but the knowledge that Brownie can give him will really help him round out his game.

Brownie knows how good Jared can deliver it. He was just saying make sure you kick the next one to me:D

Brisbane Lions Recall Jared Polec For Clash Against Gold Coast Suns
July 19, 2012
Greg Davis

BRISBANE has recalled midfielder Jared Polec to help fill the void left by the suspension of Daniel Rich for Saturday's QClash IV against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.

Rich has been Brisbane's best player in 2012 and will leave a significant hole in the Lions' line-up.

But Polec - who was taken with the no.5 pick in the 2010 draft - has the run and left boot to minimise the damage left by the two-match ban handed to Rich for pushing Saint Clint Jones into the boundary fence last weekend.

NEAFL Round 18 vs. Mt Gravatt
30.07.2012

Karnezis (three goals) and Josh Green (four goals) completed the best player list in a Lions side that lost Jared Polec following a heavy collision midway through the third quarter.

...(Clarke is confident that) Polec will be available next week.

Jared Polec (adductor) - 4-6 weeks according to Bupa :(

Yeah looked like a bad groin injury on the day. Thought it seemed weird in the previous article where it said Clarke was confident he'd play next week.

That pretty much wraps up Polec's 2012 season now. Needs a massive pre-season.

Contract is up at the end of next season so he has that as a bit of extra motivation to have a big season next year.

Huge Talent! needs to get back to the form from earlier in the year

He looks like he needs a good 3 pre-seasons in a row to even come close to his potential. Amazing how much difference there is between a players ability to develop fitness. Zorko missed a significant amount of the pre-season and looked as fit as anyone after his first few games.

Comparing Polec to Karnezis, I am more confident of Polec being in the starting 22 by the end of 2013. But I think Karnezis has a higher ceiling. I can't decide which one has greater value at this stage.

In the few games he has played this season, he has shown glimpses of what made him a top 5 draft pick.
Hopefully, he gets through a pre-season and really bulks up, improves his endurance and has an ability to impose himself on the contest more.
