A family member chatted to him for some time at the Yeronga family day.

While some of the feedback was quite personal and therefore won't be passed on, let's say that some of his comments might be interpreted in my mind as betraying a certain lack of commitment and homesickness.

Must say I was a bit surprised as he has been here quite some time.

Not a good sign Tassie. I believe he has a twin brother so the close family ties coupled with injuries and predominately games in the reserves wouldn't be helping.

For some time i've feared we mightn't get to see the best a Jared in Lions colours which would be a real shame on two fronts.
A) The kid looks like a natural out there, can certainly play;
B) Where our list is at, we need to make every post a winner in the draft (especially a top 5 pick) if we are to bridge the gap between us and those teams above, especially the top 4.

Don't know. Seems kind of shy from the outside.

Banfield and McKeever are his good mates I believe.

He's been playing the last 2 weeks in the reserves. Has been fairly quiet as you'd expect from someone coming off another injury smashed pre-season.

Doesn't seem like one at the moment. Just focusing on getting on the park.

Rates him as the second best kick at the club (behind Rich)

Am I correct in saying the injury was after the "main" running and strength part of the pre-season?

I really hope that Polec can find his feet. He is has potential to be such an important player. If he is homesick I really hope the club accomodates him with every possible need. What type of year do people think Polec will have? Do people see him leaving the club?

I'm sure the club is doing everything they can do accommodate him if he is homesick. Rob Kerr has made it clear on numerous occasions how much he is seen as a part of the future at the Lions. As for the kind of year he'll have I'm not sure. If he's fit you would think he would naturally get games here and therebut it might but I'd hope his training load is modified to give him more run otherwise you'd think he could expect a few games in the red and green vests. Sucks that he essentially hasn't had a preseason during his time at the club. If he did decide to leave I would think we would expect a bit based on previous comments from the club. Don't want to think about that before we even start this season though.

Now you've got the Crows board started with offers of a SANFL level not good enough to be a ruck or a forward player in McKernan.

He can go to Port. Then we trade Port's first rounder and our first rounder to the Bulldogs for pick 1 and draft Aish or Boyd. :thumbsu:

...and yet you could not resist putting one of your own forward.

His trade value is something I think we can only assess at the end of the season.

Frankly, no matter how highly rated a kid was when he was drafted, I'd be wary about giving up much in trade for him after three years on a list without doing a lot.

Is there a chance for him to play round one?

Season Preview for Brisbane Lions

It's crunch time for…
Jared Polec came to the Lions as the number five pick of the 2010 National Draft and full of high hopes. Some injuries and inconsistent form have restricted him to just 15 games in his first two seasons. He is a classy left footer but is quickly being overtaken by a number of midfield/wing players the same age.

Just out of curiosity where is he? I haven't heard of him being injured and no one has mentioned him in the reserves wrap or in terms of senior selection?

Injuries hit young Lions
April 16 2013
Sam Lord

Jared Polec (ankle), Patrick Wearden (face) and Ryan Lester (adductor) all suffered injuries from the Lions’ senior and reserves matches at Metricon Stadium.

Polec landed awkwardly from a marking contest during the final quarter of last Saturday night’s QClash, and was visibly in pain as he was helped from the field.

While initial fears from the sidelines were that Polec had damaged his knee, it soon became apparent that it was instead his ankle.

“We thought initially it might have been his knee, but fortunately it was his ankle,” Brett Burton told LIONS TV as part of the Bupa Recovery Report.

“We’re still trying to determine the extent of the injury.”

The Lions midfield appears to have taken another hit, with youngster Jared Polec likely to spend several weeks on the sideline with an ankle injury sustained against the Suns.

Polec's injury came just days after Claye Beams' season was written off with an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his knee.

About what I expected.
