I think he'll be All-Australian by 2015 FWIW, he's quality.

I will make you a bet now of $100 to a charity of the losers choice that he will not be an AA in 2015.
I'll take a $100 as well. "Tough love" heh? What, spending three years in the reserves was "Kind Love?"

Very interesting .... http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-11-18/polec-not-up-to-speed
"PORT Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has made it clear more is expected of new recruit Jared Polec after an uninspiring opening time-trial.

Polec - who recently had a bout of tonsillitis - finished the 3km run in the middle of the pack, a long way from winner Kane Cornes and behind some of the club's bigger players.

Hinkley approached Polec after he finished and, while he denied he was disappointed with the 20-year-old's effort, said the former Lion had some ground to make up."

Why am I not surprised.

In fairness middle of the pack isn't that bad. He'll be the sub quite a bit his year though.

Will be so interesting to see how Jareds career and that of the others, unfolds over time...

Im sure in round 15 we'll see an interview with Hinkley along the lines of "Polec has really freed us up to play Kane Mitchell for a full game, now that hes the token Sub for the club. We really made this decision when we found Polec could really only influence the competition for 1 out of 4 quarters."

Yep, he needs to be taught a lesson or two, but it'll click back in Adelaide and I think he'll be a jet after a season of learning "what it takes" :thumbsu:

Although it might take him more than a season...

year 1: Finally decides to get his 'skates on'.
year 2: still struggling with the concept of tying his own laces.
year 3: decides to undertake preseason altitude training in a final effort to break out of the SANFL... in the Dead Sea.
year 4: decides to fly to Winnipeg, Canada - finally becomes a Jet['s supporter]

Depends who's in the pack. Sounds like, apart from Cornes, it was largely their young brigade which does put it in context. You got the impression from his tweets over the trade period that training wasn't his highest priority. Don't wish him any ill luck but I'm happy he is Port's problem now and not ours.

Where are they now?

JARED POLEC - After requesting a move back home to South Australia after three seasons in Brisbane, Polec was traded to Port Adelaide – the club he grew up supporting as a kid – in a complicated three-way deal which saw the Lions gain Pick No.22 (Darcy Gardiner) and Pick No.34 (Nick Robertson).

2013 Review - by Matt_BL

Reviewing Jared Polec’s season is a difficult one. After the keen interest of Brisbane supporters hoping Polec’s third AFL season was a break-out one, half the hope came true. While it wasn’t a breakout season it was a breakaway season as Polec requested a trade back to South Australia during the AFL Trade Period, subsequently no deal was done until late and at that time Polec nominated Port Adelaide, and got there due to a complex three way trade with GWS. In total Polec played 16 games, although only managed one senior appearance in 2013, limited to 9 disposals and an ankle injury late in the game.

At NEAFL level, it was consistent with what was shown in past season, glimpses of skill and class but not that consistent performance that would demand selections.

On the trade period, there was a backlash from senior players Tom Rockliff and Pearce Hanley, with the latter naming the departing players ‘mummies boys’. Whether this tag creates some spite in the contest between Port and Brisbane remains to be seen, but the true test for Polec is try and show how good he can be under Ken Hinkley, this time there are no excuses.

On this matter, Polec was recently quoted in an article stating “Ken said he would give me tough love which I really need - I need pushing," said Polec. "He promised he would be straight up with me. And I've got to earn some respect (in the competition)."

It is questionable whether motivation is required at the top level by a person other than the players, but this statement does back up some sentiments that while Polec was at the Lions that he wasn’t the hardest working player and cut corners in some areas such as recovery from injuries.

The jury is still well and truly out on Polec, for the Lions they have been left to pick up the pieces of what was a number 5 pick in the recent 2010 draft. No doubt the outside midfielder role – a player with pace and skills, is needed to fill a hole in the Brisbane midfield thus the 2013 draft may see a similar type of player come in to fill that role. Unfortunately, accurate left foot, 189cm wingman are hard to come by so it will be interesting to see if a direct replacement for Polec will be picked or whether current players will be backed to fill that role.

For the future, Polec has a lot to prove to his new club, and there are mixed opinions by supporters on his success with some hoping he does not succeed, however the reviewer wishes Jared all the best in his AFL journey to forge a great career and play well, just not against the Lions.

polec is tearing it up right now against port. we are seeing him become the player we expected to get, but never got. this is painful to watch .

Unfortunately he and Karnezis are probably those 2 players we needed to have good midfield depth both are in their 4th seasons this year.
