He is increasingly calling to receive the ball when he is running on his wrong side. I just wish he would make some effort to kick on his right boot.

I remember David Hutton often getting caught on his wrong side when he was tucked up on the boundary line. He was never a comfortable wrong-sided kick, but at least he had developed a neat little 20m drop-punt that he could execute when under pressure, often hitting up a leading half forward.

Polec needs to be able to do this. That left footed checkside OOF early in the game, that resulted in the Suckling goal, must be removed from his game.

I know this is a long shot but I believe he has the ability to be a peak Francou if he can develop an inside game.

The way he dodges and weaves ....Very Francou like.

Has anyone ever laid an effective tackle on this guy? His ability to evade tackles or just brush them off in congestion is just ridiculous.

He's very thin and wiry, but there's a surprising burst of strength about him that makes him extremely hard to tackle. Combine that with his snakelike agility and nous and you don't see him caught too often even with his obvious limitation of being one-sided.

If he is on next season we are going to fly!

Polec at his best is a thing of beauty! Love watching him play.
He can show Jack Trengove what can be achieved post navicular#, though having had the surgery might make that more difficult in Jack's case poor fella.

His 2017 he was up in kicks, disposals, marks, tackles, inside 50's, disposal efficiency and contested marks from both 2016 and 2014. Not all, but some seem to think he hasn't bounced back to his best, but he's done that and surpassed it. He's still copping a lot of unwarranted flack IMO. If he could add hitting the scoreboard now and then he'd be the complete link man player.

I reckon Francou had better evasiveness than Poly and his first 5 steps a touch quicker. I recall Francou being a bit harder at it as well, though Poly has certainly improved that part of his game.

New deal expected soon for Power midfielder
OUT-OF-CONTRACT Port Adelaide midfielder Jared Polec is yet to open negotiations with the club, but both parties are confident a new deal will be done by the middle of the season.
Polec has made a strong start to 2018, averaging a career-high 26.4 possessions a game over the first five rounds, and he remains a key member of the Power's on-ball division with his line-breaking run and pinpoint left boot.
It's understood Port and Polec deferred contract talks earlier this year to allow the wingman to focus on returning to fitness and form following a significant hamstring injury that sidelined him from the JLT Community Series.

BURNING QUESTION
Would Jared Polec be in Port’s top three in the best-and-fairest? He’s had 29, 21, 29, 28, 25 and 34 disposals in the first six games this year and is tackling and kicking goals.

And Kane has done an article on Jared today, combining his favourite topic - contracts.

Port Adelaide should only offer Jared Polec a one-year deal says Kane Cornes
IT’S an awful feeling when you are staring your football mortality in the face. For most AFL players, footy is all they’ve ever known. Plucked from school, they’re put into a club environment, which is essentially a microcosm of the real world. Football is what they excel at, and for many much of their identity is based on being a player. Port Adelaide midfielder Jared Polec started the 2018 season knowing that it is the final year on his playing contract. He would be acutely aware that a reoccurrence of the serious foot injuries that have restricted him to just 74 games out of a potential 102 in his time at the Power could end his time at the top level. At only 25 years of age, Polec is clearly determined to extend his career. After round six the wingman is averaging 28 disposals, 10 contested possessions, three clearances, six marks and four tackles. Remarkably, all are career highs. Jared Polec is playing for his football life. It’s a familiar tale. A player entering his final year of a contract puts it all on the line.
........
Polec would be leading Port’s best and fairest this year. It might be enticing for Port list manager Jason Cripps to sign him on a multi-year deal, but I’d be offering him a one-year extension only. Polec has identified a motivation that is having a hugely positive impact on his performance. Port Adelaide should capitalise on that.........

That's so dumb from Kane. If we low balled him with a 1 year deal I'm sure his manager would have no trouble getting the Crows to put a 4 year deal in front of him.

I don't think it is a dumb idea imo. Probably only in theory though. In practise you just wouldn't do it.

I put Polec up there with Robbie G in terms of the influence he can have on games.
Stupid by Kornes for even suggesting it. He needs to be locked away for 3-4 years on decent coin.

3 years would be reasonable.

As being reported by FOX sports:

NORTH Melbourne has identified its next big trade target from a rival club, tempting Port Adelaide’s Jared Polec with a massive deal.
According to Sam McClure from SEN Breakfast, Polec, out of contract at season’s end, has received a significant, long-term offer from the Kangaroos, reportedly over $700,000 a year.

“He’s in the middle of contract negotiations with Port Adelaide and is keen to stay, but there are a couple of Victorian clubs circling,” McClure told SEN Breakfast.

Just wow!
If it is true that is a mighty tempting offer and I certainly don't begrudge him considering it. I think the club helped get his body in better shape and he has tried his guts out for us. If he was to leave it is completely understandable, but I would love him to stay.

I'm starting to get the idea that the main reason for all of these offers from North is to keep all their players on their toes by making them think they'll be replaced. They've had Shaun Higgins in as a free agent but he wouldn't have been initially signed on a huge contract as the Bulldogs received second-round compo for him.

“Reported offers” are not offers.

In other word, “McLure”. No typo ;)

#fakeoffers are even harder to nail than #fakenews

Memo to North players: you’ll eventually be moving “somewhere” anyway, so just get on with it.
