Jared Rivers - New Assistant coach (Defence)

quietly hoping this is the sign of things to come. That we dont need to have a dozen specialist coaches needing to justify their existence. Found it almost comforting listening to Mick Gayfers Open Mike recollection of Lethals coaching style....simply just beat your man. I like that.
Simpler times. It'd be good.

Rivers said he thinks Rhyce is making the defensive line his own responsibility given the fact he was defensive line coach in Sydney and has plenty of experience. That was Jared’s theory on why his position had been made reduntant anyway.

So he pretty much answered his own question

They just said on AFL360 that because we've made him redundant, we now can't fill that role of defensive coach again for 2 years by law. Real concerning.

Happens in business' daily.

We will just replace the job under a different title next season.

It's not even as if AFL staff is as rigid as some buisness', just put on another development coach and hand him the responsibility of the defence line coach.

Or we restructure each of the coaches into the new role of "line coach" and hand them each responsibility.

There's literally 100 ways around it.

He's probably pissed given that he moved to North a few months ago and that his redundancy would of been 1 week of pay under current law.

He was at Collingwood for about 3-4 years, so probably missed out on 3-4 weeks of extra redundancy payments.

Sounds like a role for Jmac.
No, JMac would be more along the lines of "Senior Project Manager, Defence to Midfield Transition Strategy". He'd also be engaged through his own personal services company, charging $2000 a day plus expenses.
