How does Andrew feel as though his miss before the 3 quarter time in the 93 prelim cost the Crows the game and probably a premiership.

Ask Darren what REALLY happened in 1991 regarding going to Hawthorn!!!

He didnt get time to elaborate on this but touched on the fact that he was mentored by Dipper whom he respects. He said the Dip ostracised (sp?) him at his first training session as a South Australian but a minute later when Jars hit Dunstall on the chest lace out off his left foot from a gather front and centre ...he was all over him. He loved Dipper greatly.

He was asked about that goal and pretty much said that the mood in the rooms was up beat to overconfident...not to mention smelly after Bicks or Benny had opened thier lunchbox and created laughter when focus was the order of the day.
Cockiness lost the game and Michael Long being too quick for him.

D Jars: Current Weight minus Playing Weight equals?

He's stacked it on and was pretty pissed by nights end.

All in all the Sportsmans night was about a 6 outta 10.
All the grog you could sink between 7 and midnight, a three course meal and some pretty ordinary skits (from the Jarman Boys) with very little Q&A time = $30 worth of good value plus the Crows won on the night:D

Funny you ask that question cause I had the pleasure of drinking a few beers with DJ and that was the first question I asked him. His honesty blew me away. To cut a long story short, the reason he left had a lot to do with Knuckles Kerley. His story went that when they were signing up SA players to play for the Crows Kerley rocked up with (not 100% sure) Bob Hammond to Jars house. With Kerls he had two cans of coke. He gave one to Jars and one to his Mrs and walked over to the table and asked Jars to sign. Jars and his wife were a bit dumbfounded at the lack of professionalism and abruptness and asked if they could talk it over for a few days. Jars didnt say whether he had already been in talks with the Hawks or not but he was flown over to Melbourne, first class, with his wife in the next day or two and wined and dined in one of Melbournes best restaraunts with the coach, President, Ceo all there and even though he didnt say by how much, was offered a much much better deal. As much as it hurts me to say, I cant blame him. And Jars said it was the best thing he had ever done, the friends he made, the contacts and the fact he still got to come back and win 2 flags. It still blows me away at how unprofessional we were back in those early days and makes you realise why we couldnt get the Plattens, Kernahans and Bradleys back.

Andrew signed up in a Foodland freezer FFS!

Hammond and Kerls were dressed for the occasion and breathing "condensed atmospheric moisture:D" while Andrew was phoned, ushered down a corridor and into a coldroom.

Dont think $ were discussed as part of the deal...just a comment " Youll be playing for your state!"

Surely there were some dodgy deals done by the Vic clubs that were not in keeping with the spirit of the salary cap in the early days of the AFL.

Maybe the Crows were too honest for their own good when they started or maybe they were being watched more closely than other clubs when they came in. When you think of all the champions Hawthorn had in 1991 it is almost unbelievable they could have been under the salary cap.
