Jarod Pickett at Pick #4 - Was This A Mistake?

Collingwood was reportedly keen to pick him up at 5, and GWS got wind of it and swooped at 4 from memory. He wasn't considered a reach at the time afaik.
Hard to tell what's going to become of him at this point, Linsfrac(?) injury is the same injury that ended Swan's career, so it's a pretty bad one to come back from.

Giants taking picks 4 6 and 7 in that draft and 2 years later trading them for a net return of deledio and pick 69 probably isn't a great result.

As for pickett need to give him time given his injury history, before we can assess if he will make it or not.

Yeah, we screwed the pooch. I mean, to recruit an electric junior in Pickett who at the time fulfilled a need on our list and managed to get himself injured with a very difficult and nasty injury...Terrible drafting.
On top of that we recruited a guy that did not 1, but 2 ACL's before he had played a game for us...Terrible drafting.
Let's compound that by recruiting a guy who was more than happy to leave his northern Victorian state to come to Sydney, because he wasn't from Melbourne. Then, his father falls off a bike and breaks his wrist, and all of a sudden he cannot get "home" quick enough even though the drive time between Benalla and Melbourne is only 4 hours shorter than it is from Sydney to Benalla...Terrible drafting

We were a victim of circumstance in that draft.

He is only 20 and we know he has bundles of natural talent just hasnt been able to string 10-15 games together. Time is on his side..needs to build natural and match fitness thats the only thing that is lacking... fitness - so good luck to him to come good.

A bust they could afford, but it does raise questions about how good Silvagni actually is.

Still, he took a bit of a punt with SPS and it has paid off big time.
Bit ridiculous to describe a 20 year old who's had significant injury, who's done well to even get on the park this season a bust.

It really doesn't raise concerns whatsoever about Silvagni at all. Speak to any Carlton supporter and they'll tell you how happy they are that our drafting has finally improved. He's literally nailed every single one of our picks from 2015 onwards, even from late in the draft.

SPS, while I guess you could argue was some risk, being from interstate and having had a hamstring injury. He was quite clearly the best player available at our pick. He's since then (imo) proven to be so.
Will thoroughly enjoy watching his career pan out...

Still, apart from all that... good post :thumbsu:

Lisfranc injury and those can be particularly nasty.

Not as bad as this broken heel/ subtalar joint injury Im getting over but a bastard nonetheless.

Off topic but I know the feeling - broke (read: shattered) my Calcaneus, Talus, Cuboid and Tibia in late 2014 as well as tearing all of the ligaments. Not fun. Hope the recovery is going well.

Have to question this, 1. How was it a punt? He was clearly an absolute gun. And 2. How can you say it's paid off big time? Obviously he's been terrific this year, but at the end of the day he's 9 weeks into his AFL career, could do two ACLs and then go home to get a fresh start.

If by 'bit of a punt' you meant taking a WA boy then the second part of the comment is even more puzzling, as even if he was homesick, he wouldn't have been able to request a trade yet.
A couple of weeks before the draft SPS said in a Twomey interview he wanted to be drafted to a big Vic club and play in Melbourne.

He wanted out of WA.
