Jarrad Waite has shown more than most of the younger players that have been mentioned in the discussions about a key signing. Much better option than Whitnall from Carlton as he is younger and still has a big upside and is only 22.

Has enough experience to make an impact, unlike Watts or McDougall.
He is beginning to develop more consistency, takes marks, kicks goals and he even tackles.

Has kicked 21 this year from 13 games.

He is unsigned and woudl looking for a bigger deal from Carlton.

Thoughts?

We're not going to get any superstars. Realistically the best we can hope for is to pick up a KPP or 2 on the cheap like Lance or Dutchy and hope they play well in new surroundings. I'd like doog's put he may cost too much. If 4 out of every 5 threads is about trading, the least we can do is be realistic about what we can get.

If thats the case then lets stop talking about trading at all. There is no point if all that we can realistically expect is washed up hacks. We've been there before and its not fun.

The best bet is to identify talent and bring our own on or go for a disgruntled youngster along the lines of Watts or Doogs, other than that I'd be staying well away from trades.

eade has already said that we will be trading at seasons end. would love waite but its highly unlikely, we would have to give up something pretty good for him as well if he wanted to leave. would still love him here :D

Reckon that's absolutely it.

If we can't get Waite or maybe McDougall then why bother. No point paying top dollar/picks for players that aren't performing for their current clubs.

Too risky.

The point is talking about trading Cooney for J. Brown as some threads have is pointless. Thats the main point. I have brought this bloke up 2 months ago and the same things were said. To reiterate, yes were after doogs but dont want to give up a good payer for him. That's where tongues get wagging. My other point is that players like Lance and Dutchy aren't going to be on top dollar and may come relatively cheap if either wanted even half their current contract i'd laugh at them. For a low pick and/or fringe player. I think it'd be worth the gamble. Low costs mean low risks unlike Rawlings. So i'm not polar opposed to the idea of recycling using a low pick. I'm not against trade talk, but it should be realistsic. Doogs is, Waite isn't. The others are worth talking about the merits of what i've just said.

In the scrap heap this year will be

Sav Rocca
Digby Morrell
Cory McKernan
Lance Whitnall
Nick Holland

I'd prefer to retain Daniel Bandy than risk picking up any of the above diseases.
