Nice work! But if he doesnt get picked up, we'll come after you, flapping our toothless gums, reeking of alcohol and complaining about our dole money being cut back $20... ;)

2003 FORM
Given a chance at senior level during the Wizard Cup in Sydney and Cairns, where he played well against Geelong, particularly in the middle stages. Was close to his side’s best in the Round 1 curtain-raiser against Redland, but was quieter at Sherwood against Morningside.

CAREER HISTORY
The bullocking in-close midfielder was given a small taste of senior football during the Wizard Cup pre-season series but for the remainder of his debut year in 2002 was given time to develop with the Lions Reserves.

He made a conspicuous start to the AFLQ season, being prominent in most games, including a standout four goals against Mayne in Round 2, and best-on-ground in the Round 11 win over Broadbeach.

Continued as a key member of the Reserves midfield and was gutsy in defeat in the Round 16 loss to Northern Eagles, and was prominent in Rounds 17-20. Good in the centre against Labrador in the final round, he continued his fine form in the elimination win over Morningside. Provided plenty of momentum from the centre in the first semi win over the Northern Eagles, particularly in the second half, and was similarly good in the preliminary final loss to Southport.

Knows how to kick a goal, but has also done well with several tagging assignments handed to him. A good club man who produced a strong first season.

He has shown plenty of enthusiasm from the moment he arrived at the club, with the young man from Woodville-West Torrens committed to doing everything within his power to ensure he is knocking on the door for senior selection this year.

Taken at No.35 with the Lions’ second draft pick in 2001, Wright described receiving the news of his selection as “the best feeling ever”. And he was on a plane within three days of being drafted so he could take part in the first day of pre-season training.

“I’ve wanted to do this all my life,” Wright said of playing league football. “I thought it was probably best if I got straight into it.”

Unlike many young players, the then 17-year-old wanted to get out of Adelaide if he was going to be drafted, rather than remain at home.

“It’s a lot more compact there with more media focus, and there’s lots of other pressures,” he said. “I wanted to get away from all the hype and just focus on playing good footy.”

He even sensed before he left home that Brisbane would be a perfect fit for him. “I just knew I was going to like it because I love the warm weather and as soon as I got introduced to the staff and players I could feel it was a close-knit team,” he said.

Vice-captain of the South Australian under 18 team in 2001 despite being a year younger than most of his teammates, Wright also captained the Woodville-West Torrens under 17s and progressed through to SANFL reserve grade.

The 182cm, 74kg running player with good close-in skills is absolutely genuine in his enthusiastic approach to the game, judging by his state under 18 coach Bruce Winter’s observations.

Winter, a former top notch SANFL player, said Wright would leave no stone unturned in his endeavours to succeed.

“His attitude will be fantastic – he will give himself every opportunity,” Winter said. “He has got a great work ethic and football is something that is important to him.

“The lad knows what it takes to do well, and the commitment you have to make to get there.”

Winter admitted it was rare for a 17-year-old to be made vice-captain in a state team containing older players, as he had done with Wright.

“That’s a pretty big wrap for the lad,” he said. “We thought he showed exceptional football leadership skills and he certainly gives direction out on the ground.

“He’s strong at it and holds his ground well. He’s got clean hands and good awareness of the players around him. He will be good for you in the long term.”

Wright, whose father Tony played under 19s and reserves with Collingwood and whose uncle Rodney played 54 games with Melbourne and North Melbourne, is enjoying taking directions at the Lions.

“They are the best team in the competition last year and you can’t ask for much more than that,” he said. “They have one of the best coaches ever to coach and play the game, and it is a great honour to be here.”

Wright, who enjoys a hit of golf, spent two days a week in 2002 working in between his football commitments.

“I won’t hold back – I’ll have a real crack at everything,” he said.

Detective KD at your service ;) anything you guys want I can probably find. Any requests?

I figured you might not have realised FF, when you said you didnt follow the Eagles so you wouldnt know anything about him, that got me thinking 'Are there two Jarrad Wrights?' But no, only one. Methinks that two years with the best team in the comp should almost guarantee a spot on our list.

It did take a while for the synapses to snap into place for me there - I get those WWT players mixed up too easy - even the ones that aren't there, apparently.

Choco doesn't mind borrowing from the best organisations, so I think a strong over the ball midfielder who's been with the Lions could be a big chance.
