Jarrod Waite- Armband

Hey fellas, if you can remember a few weeks back there was a thread posted by a fellow Blues supporter about the untimely passing of his brother (Brett Baker). To cut a long story short, tommorrow at the Meet and Greet at Princes Park (I hope it's tommorrow anyway!), I plan to ask Mr. Waite if he could wear an armband for Brett come Round 1.

I'm aware that it's a pretty childish/stupid idea that is most likely not going to succeed, but I may aswell have a stab at it, but the only real problem is that I'm not quite sure on how to approach him to ask. Would somebody/anybody like to give me a hand and pitch a possible idea? Any sort of help is much appreciated, thanks:thumbsu:

Obviously a sensitive and emotive situation, your question / request is not stupid at all, however, I wouldn't propose that you put him in that situation.

With greatest of respect of course.

That's exactly my main fear, I don't want to put him in a situation where it becomes and obligation for him to agree. That's why im hoping for some assistance from you fellas:)

Better for the brother himself to write a letter via the club I would imagine.

Not much luck for a kid that heard about it on an internet forum but dosnt even know the deceased's full name

Would be the best way to do it. Call or write to the club and see what they say. But since he isn't your brother, and I'm guessing you never knew him, I'd suggest you let the idea go.

Ohk then. Just so people are aware we have exchanged emails and such so it's not as though I am just deciding to play hero or nothing like that. Thanks for the advice fellas:thumbsu:

Kudos to you:thumbsu:

I think you should go for it, but as others have said, i would approach the club not any one player. The football club are very receptive to approaches, my grandfathers ashes are on PP. They let us finish proceeding's there.

They worked with me on my own marketing plan were i would donate free services to all listed players and the players that came regularly was my gain. Ended up with Lappin, Thornton, Bentick and Blackwell as clients!

Just wouldn't want to pressure an individual:thumbsu:

Thats' really interesting to hear how receptive the club is. You'd think it would be a "Bugger off" kind of thing seeing as they probably get requests by the dozens.

Im starting to think contacting the club is a much smarter idea, but who exactly would it be that I should contact? Was there anyone specific in which you talked to? (Excuse the barage of questions:))

Look, i'm sure you're trying to do the right thing, but honestly, i think it's very inappropriate and really no-one's business to go and ask Jarrad. IF the guy wants to do it, he can do it himself, without a bunch of people off a forum going to hassle Jarrad. I think it is really not neccessary to be honest.

How awkward for Jarrad if you do, which I hope that you won't decide to do. Not your place, not Jarrad's place and really not neccessary.

EditIf you're going to do it at all, go through the club, it's not right to hassle the players about things like this.

Don't worry, I realised that asking him face-to-face wasn't the smartest idea a little while ago, im just a very stuborn person:) If I am to do anything I have decided to go through the club. I just thought it may be a nice idea.

For my work stuff i went through the marketing and events, you can get them on (03) 9389 6296. They asked me to email my offer and they posted it to the players who then had a choice to come and receive a free service. I'm not sure how they would tackle this issue but i would at least expect they would fill you in on what the protocol on this sorta thing is:thumbsu:

The best way to do it would be to contact You Beauty! who was the poster you are talking about and tell him what you would like to do. Email or PM him.
If he thinks it is a good idea then it would be better for him to contact the club and explain about his brother and see what the club has to say.

I like your sentiments though. Very nice. :)

The Club has to approve an armband and the AFL have to authorise any armbands or change to the total uniform.
So my recommendation is to forget.

are you sure

what if it is taping..not every player has to wear taping.....it could just be a tape to cover up a cut...i think you should ask the club, because it would be so so awkward for a player to be put in that situation....

but it sounds like a good idea even though it may set the trend and players have to wear 2 arm bands each week

Not entirely true. While Heath Black was playing for St.Kilda, he wore a black armband after her passing without AFL authorisation with no sort of penalty.
