I think that was the worst fumble ever. To dive full length like that at a punt, and in that field situation, was abysmal. Many players drop sitters, in all sports. But to do what he did was truly awful and practically never seen before.
He made the mistake because he doesn't know the game, that's why it has never been seen before.

The call of a "Superman dive" is ridiculous and it takes away from the rest of your point.

He was under it, slightly misjudged it and fell forwards, dropping a "chest mark". At the point he realises he misjudged it, he was about 2 steps behind where it was going to land. Even with the misjudgement, it went right through his arms. He makes that catch, even with falling forward, 9/10 times.

Definitely inexperience, but he assumed he had it. And he should have, he wrapped his arms right around it before it spilled. He'll be a better player for it.

There is no way this fumble is worse than say, Sanchize running directly into his own stationary lineman, or the Miracle at the Meadowlands, any way you want to spin it.

Don't bring things up that the newbies would have no idea about, especially the second one....

If the nfl ran a top 10 worst/most notorious fumbles video special, haynes superman dive would be up there with sanchize, meadowlands, and bebe's super bowl gaffe.

GG if you aren't trolling, you've let your hatred of Hayne (or the Hayne story) consume you.

It isn't even the worst fumble of the last month.

And that guy was a #2 draft pick being paid about $16m this season.

Rookies will make dumb mistakes - especially rookies on the bubble who need to make plays.

Of course I chuckled like many when it happened after the 12 months of hype leading up to that moment. But, despite having been outspoken about the fact that I didn't think he'd make it, I wasn't happy about it.

Yes, it was a bad look - it showed a huge dearth of football IQ to seemingly forget that he could let the ball bounce. And at that moment I thought "he's cooked". But it wasn't because of the fumble itself, it was because of that lack of football IQ.

However later on in the game he did a couple of little things that redeemed himself in that sense. At one point he picked up a blitzing DL (or OLB, I don't remember) and gave Kaepernick some extra time; at another point, he didn't receive the ball, but upon noticing that Kaep didn't have options he ran a pretty nice check-down option route.

Some of the things that won't have been noticed by noobs in the Australian media and people that don't watch NFL, and some of the things that people wouldn't have noticed just by watching highlights or statlines were ok, and were enough to keep him getting chances given how much positive press the 49ers are getting out of the story. He's a very, very good foil for Carlos Hyde in more ways than one...

Given that Hyde is a mother ******* beast, but the Hayne story has managed to take a little bit of focus of Hyde, they might be able to keep him at RB2 for at least another week.

HAYNE SETS RECORD FOR ESPN AUSTRALIA

THE former Eels’ NFL regular-season debut for the 49ers drew a television audience of 116,000 for ESPN in Australia, topping last season’s record mark of 107,100 for the Super Bowl XLVIII.

Speechless
Let's not beat around the bush. A large component of that number would have been people wanting to see him fail. Me, I was surprised. He wasn't great but he's consistently better than what any of us imagined. That's a credit to Hayne and the 49ers staff.

What do you think the mastermind ninja tomsula will be saying to hayne? He'd be all tough love too. What I do is try to get into tomsula's head-space.... "what would tomsula be thinking"
what tomsula is saying "don't do it again."

what he is thinking "I hope he doesn't do it again"

I still think Hayne has a boat load of untapped potential, 1 training camp and he's out there running plays from the playbook, providing pass blocking, 2 things many experienced football pundits thought he would have no chance in doing, ever.

And he is doing it on a similar level to others (obviously not the top flight) who have been playing the game since they burst from the womb, so I can see the 49ers thinking he has a higher ceiling than those players if he is given the reps.

1 more bad decision (leading to a fumble) and I think he'll be quietly moved out the back door - but even then he could find himself on another roster or practice squad, what could really make or break his chances are his durability (or lack thereof), it's a long season and the hits take their toll.

It's all so exciting though, so glad he was given a few more chances in the game, he's gone way beyond the expectations of anyone that knows the game already, what a champ.

And the 1st-play fumble has just beefed up the already amazing script for a movie - starring Jarryd Hayne as himself and GG as Tomsula.

If Reggie didn't get injured, I bet my sack Hayne sits on the bench for the rest of the game after that silly fumble.

One more **** up and he's gone.
Well we all know after watching game tape, the Pittsburgh punter will be instructed to kick high and let it drop 10yds short so he can do this again.

But part of me hopes he gets some swing passes just to see someone like Moats, Timmons or Harrison kill him. Just imagine if Harrison puts a big hit on Hayne. it would make him pack his bags and go back the rugby.

Far be it from me to step on the toes of the rugby league trolls.

But suggesting a hit from Harrison is bigger than a full-speed hit from a Paul Gallen/Nate Myles/Sam Thaiday shows a flagrant ignorance of rubgy league I'm afraid.

Foxtel base + sports aint $160 a month. But either way, you are spending money to get the coverage. Plus Foxtel has all the related US media NFL programs on ESPN and ESPN 2. I just think complaining about what channel 7 are doing is pointless. It is obvious what they are going for, and it probably will work.

What's your point?

At no point did I say he wasn't a hard hitter - I was saying it's ignorant of rugby league to suggest it's bigger than any hit he would've copped in the NRL.
They dont wear pads because the hits arent as violent
