The irony of the story that is Hayne and the Australian media's treatment of the story is the only place I keep up to date on what they are saying is in this thread.

If you don't like it, turn away.
They know they will be disappointed with what they find, but look anyway.

What's your point?

At no point did I say he wasn't a hard hitter - I was saying it's ignorant of rugby league to suggest it's bigger than any hit he would've copped in the NRL.
NFL players use pads and Helmets as weapons.

This is a sports Sience from about 7 years ago.

And then this 5 years ago

Clowney unblocked who now plays LB, so would be similar to a LB unblocked on a dump off to a HB

If you think this is a hit that is over and above anything Hayne might have been looking at in the NRL, then you are as ignorant of the NRL than the Hayne bandwagoners are about the NFL.

I don't even like rugby league, but carn.

More confirmation that the people who have a go at Hayne have no idea....have you seen the stock available at Parra Leagues Club?
Credit where it is due... if he can land himself some quality while he is 'balling' in the states...well played that man!

lol half of those SBW hits are illegal in league now
As are helmet to helmet hits in the NFL.

here we go, my sport is tougher than your sport....
I think I've been here more than long enough to not be written off as someone defending rugby league as "my sport". I'm not even sure I love rugby league - I love my Canberra Raiders, but with the West Coast playing Friday night, and with me attending both of the AFL finals in Melbourne, I didn't watch a single one of the NRL finals over the weekend.

Thus, it is you who is being small-minded in immediately writing off any objective discussion as "my sport is tougher than your sport" while the rest of us were actually engaging in a discussion.

I knew you or someone else would through up the Clowney hit!

Yep, amazing hit for sure - but one hit doesn't represent the norm. If I weren't having a 5-minute smoko in the middle of doing a uni assignment, I'm sure it wouldn't take too long to youtube similarly one-off monster shots from rugby league.

Just to return to the actual discussion point - I'm not saying that NFL isn't brutal, and Harrison is one of my favourite defensive players in the league (KILLED IT for a couple of BF fantasy teams last season!)

My point once again is just that the notion that someone in the NFL could hit Hayne hard enough that he would want to return to the NRL where the hits are "softer" is just completely unfounded in reality.

NFL players hit at about 3-4 times the force then Rugby player, but Rugby players get hit more often.

A hit from a NFL player is the same as driving a car into a brick wall at about 60KPH.

Im not saying rugby players are soft. just that NFL players hit with more force in a single hit. but also hit less often then Rugby players do. NFL players also use the protection they have as a weapon, and also because of the protection the hit force is distributed to a larger space not just where contact is made.

The Clowney hit is what it would be like for a RB getting lit up from a LB on a little dump off pass.

This is just absolute garbage. You can't seriously believe this is true. You could argue slight harder overall, but that's totally countered by the fact that apart from a running back, they're probably only involved in 5 or 6 tackles per game

If you get absolutely lined up on toast like with the Clowney hit, there is a shitload of force. That kind of hit isn't particularly common at all, and most tackles would be roughly equivalent to an NRL tackle.

6'6, 120kg guys who can sprint and hit like a freight train exist in the NRL, and every now and then one of those monsters is able to line someone up just like Clowney did.

As you say, players hit with their pads and helmets, but they're also protected by their pads and helmets.

I really couldn't give a damn what sport is tougher.

I prefer having the players not having the body of a 70 year old when they are 50. Not having all the concussions for the rest of their life. Not being out for the important games when you take time off to watch them.

What's tougher isn't that important.

NFL hits are tougher however NRL games involve a lot more tackling while players are tired. Players can get life threatening injuries in both games. Helmets and pads allow players to be more reckless and rougher with their tackles. In NRL you could literally end up a paraplegic a lot easier due to the nature of their tackles.

I reckon the NFL has a bigger issue going forward with concussion and brain injuries though, because of the helmets. Players think their heads are safe, so they use their heads to make tackles etc.

I reckon eventually we'll see an NFL without helmets so players start to take a bit more care over their own safety.

Doubt it. Taking helmets away full stop would be too dangerous. They'll need to find another way around it.
