being a fringe player on a team that gives up 47 points, who only makes 1 play a week will not keep him on a roster when more injuries happen. The biggest thing is that they have 0 faith in him running the ball. If you are not even getting garbage time runs when down by 40 points you wont last long.

And now this thread is about rating a 37yd return...

:drunk:
Well 7 are only going to keep showing the 9ers. and the longer it goes the more fun it will be. Because to quote Bart Scott
but because I love a good car crash. I love a good accident waiting to happen

Have a look at the What was the average return for 49ers last season. then you'll agree it was terrific.
It was a good return I'm not going to deny that.
It's like saying that Ty Montgomery has been terrific as a kick returner for the Packers because Harris was shit last year. He's been good, just like Hayne was on his return.

For any other team i'd agree, but when Hayne's punt return was the only trip into the redzone for the team all day, it's a little different. He had one opportunity and did pretty well with it.

Certainly the 49ers are a terrible football team who probably have little to lose by giving Hayne time to develop his football intelligence. If he was doing absolutely nothing you'd cut him, but he's just given them their only entry into the redzone of the day.

The packers were shit in the Return game for years but still a good team. Good teams can deal with bad field position.

And celebrating a 37yd return on a day that had 2 or 3 special teams TD. when you lost by 40 points is just sad.

Its like getting smashed in the AFL by 100+points but winning more hit outs.

There isn't a comparison in the AFL, because it's not as individual a sport as the NFL is. Hayne had 2 punts go to him, one is a fair catch, which is a huge improvement from his lost fumble. The other is a 37 yard return that gets his team into the redzone for the only time in the game.

Sure, we can talk about how shit the 49ers are if you like, but the discussion isn't the 49ers, it's Hayne.

But it is about the 9ers, they are this shit and still dont trust him to get more playing time.

There are not many players that are on shit teams who are only on the field for 2 plays, when the team is getting smashed and still not even given garbage time snaps.

If it was the same situation for anyother team with some other faceless player he would be getting closer and closer to getting cut every week. You cant carry a dead roster spot every week. and with him they are using 4 spots on the 46-man gameday roster every week.

I get the impression that they don't want to risk him at RB, when he's the only returner in the team beyond White (who has been horrible), when they have a RB (Davis) sitting on the pine.

When Bush and Ellington return, I'd expect White and Davis to drop out which would mean Hayne would be RB#3

Well he didn't do anything else to comment on.
Unless you count the fair catch.
Yeah, it's more the contrast in how that return has been rated depending on perspective. It was a good return, nothing more, nothing less.

American football is not less team orientated than australian football. Actually far more given all 11 directly contribute on every play.
But of course there's one position (centre) more important than the rest.

I don't disagree, but it's also very individual in terms of who performs in what roles.

There is no reasonable AFL equivalent of a kick/punt return. It's a self contained part of NFL football, and how a player does on a punt return can't be compared easily to anything in AFL football, because while he's got a whole team blocking for him, nobody is talking about the other 10 guys when he fumbles and nobody is talking about the other 10 guys when he runs it 93 yards for a TD like Sproles. Hayne is living and dying in that role, and the very few opportunities he gets to make plays in that role.

Watching NFL is like watching cricket on Valium.. Run, stop, add, ref conference, add, run, add, ref conference, flag, ref, add, run, etc, etc, etc.

Hayne doesn't need more game time.... HE NEEDS A BED!!
