The 49ers can maybe see a lot of upside in Hayne and none in someone like Jackson?
Hayne's already 27 or 28 soon. Not much upside. Then again, Browns drafted Brandon Weeden in the first round when he was already 42 years old and just became a grandfather.

Too early to make judgment on Haynes potential until we/if see him actually playing regular season NFL IMO.

But its the browns, they also used a top 3 pick on T-Rich.

Steven Jackson is also out there, i think he is worth a look at teams dont need to sign him. He never should of gone to Atlanta they had a bad run game and i think thats hurting him now.

Unless you're a young elite talent, all teams care about is what you're going to do this year.

If Haynes starts as PR week 1 & fumbles the ball, he's more than likely not to be on their roster week 2.

The Australian media doesn't understand that reality in the NFL. Making the week 1 roster is an achievement but he would still be a long way from being an established NFL player.

I still reckon the 49ers are nuts if they don't strengthen their depth with established players.

You know what I think is hilarious?

Blow ins who had probably never watched a game of NFL, and who wouldn't have known that BF had an American football board, coming in to tell all the regular followers of this sport how stupid they are, why it is they must like the game, and how much more you obviously know about the game because you've watched a few Hayne highlights on Facebook and on Fox Sports news and, in your completely ignorant opinion, you apparently always knew that rugby league players were the greatest athletes in the world.
Come on man, not everyone who is new to the board is disrespectful and or new to the sport. Fair enough I didn't know bigfooty had one but i have been on other sites for years. Im sad that I cant post on my teams board until at least next season thanks to all the hype :(

There are respectful ones who dont act like they know more then the regular posters, and are willing to learn. but sadly they are outnumbered by arrogant rugby fans who are trying to convince people they know everything even though its clear they have never watched a regular season game.

Dont say that, i was called a hater and more yesterday, for saying i dont think he will be on the active roster every week, mostly because i dont think its wise to use 4 spots on specialists when you have WR's or CB's that could return. Ellington would be a better pick for returner since he is also a WR

Personally I've chosen to ignore anything being said in the media about Hayne. It's all ignorant nonsense (even the stuff coming from US media).

As for NRL fans, I didn't listen to them before this all started anyway. :)

Hayne will get signed for the same reason any other player gets signed. They think he can do consistently what the play caller asks him to do.

It is that simple.

As a PR he's required to 1) not fumble the ball & 2) get yards up the field whenever given the opportunity. In a game of field position your special teams at the very least should not give up yards or possession.

Hayne has done all that in the trial games he's played. But until the 49ers see that in a regular season game then they are making a leap of faith by signing him. That's why, if I was them, I would be testing the market for someone who doesn't require that leap of faith. It's not about hate, it's not about not wanting him to succeed, it's simply stating a reality of how the NFL operates.

Fact is nobody other than the 49ers are going to sign him. They can afford to be conservative and view him as a plan B.

Well please remember to file me under the "Have been watching since 94, is an average fan with average knowledge who isn't afraid to say he doesn't know something and will ask" section :)

This thread is hilarious, it seems people see Jarryd Hayne as a threat to their "niche" sport. You like to be the guy who knows NFL, you think it makes you quirky and interesting.

Probably time to brush up on your NHL, and start casually dropping that into conversations instead.
Keep hearing here how league fans and the media have made Haynes attempts of a roster spot cringeworthy. As an aussie I find the majority of these local NFL fanboys cringeworthy.....
Hilarious work guys, keep it up.

Yesterday on Sydney radio, Greig Pickhaver, also known as 'HG' or something, said......"Those gridiron players all they do is run straight ahead, Hayne is revolutionizing the game, adding side-steps and stiff-arms, Americans have never seen anything like that." And the radio co-hosts were like "yeah".

Shoot yourselves asap.

I love this type. I encourage this type! (Was it you that I was quasi-welcoming a week ago and saying you were still a bandwagoner if you jumped on in 94? That's about as good a welcome as you'll get on this board!)

What I don't encourage is when they come in ragging everyone who was here 6 months ago leaving an opinion and acting as though they are that much smarter than long-term posters because they apparently knew all along - of course without evidence to point to - that he was going to make it.

I don't even need these people "bowing to the knowledge" of long term posters - just having a bit of respect and not acting like dickheads who a) think the game is easy and b) knew that Hayne was always going to be seccessful.

Sounds like it could be HG from Roy and HG?

If so, you're taking him far too seriously ;)

It's a massive trap, which I also fell into yesterday...

So I saw a mate, who I didn't know liked AF, watching Michigan highlights from some game in 2014 (weird??) so I start talking to him...

He likes virtually every sport and is a bit of a flog so I presume he is just watching it but doesn't really understand what's going on. Then he says, "that was a nice blitz", I look at the screen for the replay... yep, it was a nice blitz, "hmmm, maybe he is legit" I think to myself

Then I ask, "do you follow the NFL?"

"Yes"

"What team?" I ask

....

"Seahawks"

Sirens start blaring in my head, bandwagon for sure

I ask him about it, he says something about Madden 06 (he stutters so I know he is bullshitting)

...But let me get to my actual point here...

He says, "How good has Hayne been, he has been elite so far, changing the game"

"Yep" I mumble to him while nodding

So my point is, we can't fall into the trap I did of just agreeing with them, we must educate them

Excuse me while i throw out a bit of bait laced with heaps of truth:

Jarryd Hayne making the 53 man roster just shows how bad a roster the 9ers have. They will be the worst team in the NFL this year, a serious chance of going winless.

We will be able to watch every game of this train wreck as it happens. Australian broadcasters. SMH..

Good on him, but for the majority of us real NFL fans he's just a Hayne (lol, see what i did there!) in the arse.

It's a good point you make.....when something "niche" goes mainstream it naturally attracts much #noobidity (noob+stupidity). To be expected, as new people to a sport won't understand a lot. BUT...the thing that annoys is not the lack of understanding, asking questions to learn, but making declarations and finite statements about the game in a derogatory manner, or, asserting as tho factual incorrect observations about the game.
