It's a massive trap, which I also fell into yesterday...

So I saw a mate, who I didn't know liked AF, watching Michigan highlights from some game in 2014 (weird??) so I start talking to him...

He likes virtually every sport and is a bit of a flog so I presume he is just watching it but doesn't really understand what's going on. Then he says, "that was a nice blitz", I look at the screen for the replay... yep, it was a nice blitz, "hmmm, maybe he is legit" I think to myself

Then I ask, "do you follow the NFL?"

"Yes"

"What team?" I ask

....

"Seahawks"

Sirens start blaring in my head, bandwagon for sure

I ask him about it, he says something about Madden 06 (he stutters so I know he is bullshitting)

...But let me get to my actual point here...

He says, "How good has Hayne been, he has been elite so far, changing the game"

"Yep" I mumble to him while nodding

So my point is, we can't fall into the trap I did of just agreeing with them, we must educate them
I should've emphasized the "yeah" by the co-hosts was more the fist-pumping Yeaahhh!! garden variety. Not the dumbfounded shell-shocked speechless "yeah".

What you say tho is valid. It's easier to avoid conflict. But I have also spoken up and discussed/debated with RL-heads Gridiron before, and it's really frustrating because they're on another planet of know-it-all ignorance.

All the people here who play local gridiron in Oz would know this feeling too, when all the RL-heads join up and think they know the game, try to be heroes on every play, don't take instruction from the coaches, think they know the game, think the game is a lower form of RL.

It's a good point you make.....when something "niche" goes mainstream it naturally attracts much noobidity (noob+stupidity). To be expected, as new people to a sport won't understand a lot. BUT...the thing that annoys is not the lack of understanding, asking questions to learn, but making declarations and finite statements about the game in a derogatory manner, or, asserting as tho factual incorrect observations about the game.
ha yeah i guess i can understand the annoyance in that regard. nobody likes johnny-cum-lately talking shit about something you're passionate about. i guess i must have missed most of that since i didn't even know who hayne was and i hate rugby, so haven't been paying much attention to what's being said in australia.

that said i think more NFL exposure over here can only be a good thing (even if it just means i am able to catch a few more games each season). i dont think people should get too uppity about the bandwagoners, they'll disappear no doubt when the hayne plane, train or stain, stops getting a run. then the experts can all return to being the hipsters they crave to be :p

Have you ever thought that people actually like other sports other than AFL....it's been happening for years mate. That's why soccer is making huge inroads.

Also weren't AFL supporters on BF happy to whack Folau and Hunt when they gave it a go?

Must admit there's a part of me hoping he doesn't make it this week so we get to enjoy the meltdown in the media.
Lol it would end with the media buying a franchise just to put him on a roster, knowing the Australian media they would buy one of the broke arena franchises just seeing american football franchise.

Excuse me while i throw out a bit of bait laced with heaps of truth:

Jarryd Hayne making the 53 man roster just shows how bad a roster the 9ers have. They will be the worst team in the NFL this year, a serious chance of going winless.

We will be able to watch every game of this train wreck as it happens. Australian broadcasters. SMH..

Good on him, but for the majority of us real NFL fans he's just a Hayne (lol, see what i did there!) in the arse.
They said that about KC with Alex smith and andy reid for the 1st year too you know? All predictions were an absolute train wreck and they made the playoffs, even last season after 5 games the patriots were a write off and the dynasty was over. Its dangerous to analyze a season of the NFL before its over, so many variables that anything can happen.

I love this type. I encourage this type! (Was it you that I was quasi-welcoming a week ago and saying you were still a bandwagoner if you jumped on in 94? That's about as good a welcome as you'll get on this board!)

What I don't encourage is when they come in ragging everyone who was here 6 months ago leaving an opinion and acting as though they are that much smarter than long-term posters because they apparently knew all along - of course without evidence to point to - that he was going to make it.

I don't even need these people "bowing to the knowledge" of long term posters - just having a bit of respect and not acting like dickheads who a) think the game is easy and b) knew that Hayne was always going to be seccessful.
I know your frustrations mate, bigfooty is full of internet keyboard idiots that dont want to learn a thing. Don't give up hope though there are some of us left that are here for a genuine love of the game that aren't arrogant :)
Honestly what i freakin love about the NFL is watching the coaching do battle with their playbooks, once you get past the slower pace of the game its a beautiful thing to watch 2 guys try to outsmart each other then the guys on the field execute it, To be a bill walsh or bill belichick i reckon you would have to be a dead set football genius :)

I hate the pats but no amount of soft balls is going to get another Lombardi for the cabinet and they had hard balls again for the hawks, he makes awesome plays (like that one where he got the ex college qb to throw it up the line for a TD) and reads other coaches well in my limited opinion GG.

He is making it, as a punt returner.

Shame the 49ers defence won't be forcing a bunch of punts.

He may get plenty of junk time carries against an opponent still playing hard to force a shutout.

You're mistaking the correct person to laud.....Tom Brady, not Bill Belichick.

I laud both of them, Brady and Belichick not to mention Montana and Walsh and , in the games i have been able to watch both archive and live those 2 combinations are the best of my lifetime in my limited opinion. Heck what was Brady? pick 190 something in the 6th round? Brady despite all the controversy is a competitive beast that just keeps going, if its ok with you GG im still going with Montana as the goat of modern era QB's based solely on the rules in Montana's days and how much harder he was hit etc, Joe cool was a beast (yes i know he had Rice) :)

HIPSTER WANNABES?

Whatever the **** one of those is.

Seriously GG, just get the ban-stick out. It's been explained multiple times that we're very open to knew posters - we're not open to blow-in know it alls who then start patronising those of us who know what we're talking about.

We can all see who they are. They aren't here to learn about football, or even to enjoy football collectively. They're just here to troll us and tell us all how more superior rugby league players apparently are to every other athlete in the world

As frustrating as anything is the fact that I love rugby league. And yet the impression that most of the NFL fans on an AFL board are getting of rugby league fans is that they're douche bags and arseholes.

And they cant even show the 9ers first game
I thought this was strange. I can only imagine that maybe the NFL stops their partners from on-selling rights? Either that, or 7 just didn't try to hard to buy the game of ESPN.

I just think that ESPN know there's no value in this for them - no one is signing up to ESPN through whatever means to watch one game. (It probably just pushes them onto Gamepass... hopefully on 9ers fan packages... before he's cut... and picked up by the Browns. MWAHAHAHA)

You'd think that if ESPN were allowed to on-sell rights they would've.

I should add guys that when i was in the army i met a guy from the US rangers who had most old games from the early 80's on wards on vhs converted to digital and he posted me them on drives. I have every superbowl from 82 on wards and most play off games, also have most niners games from the superbowl seasons as well. PM me if you want any of that stuff :)
