Lyons always struck me as a player who would really benefit from playing whole games. I think that players who have natural footy skill, as opposed to natural athletic talent, take time to "warm into" a game. Lyons falls into the former category for me. He's not on an AFL list because he's an exceptional athlete, but because he's got good footy instincts.
I disagree. I think the change in rotations will actually work against Lyons. He'll need a bigger engine than last year. I'm sure he will improve his fitness this offseason. But as he improves, the demands get even greater too, due to less rotations. He's chasing his tale. And we can't play predominantly forward as there is too much (better) competition.

This guy should be a mod!

Thommo's form didn't drop of in 2015 & until it does, thommo keeps getting a game as quality.

However, I believe he should be rested for a few games during the year to keep him fresh.

Had some quite poor games when taking into account the volume of stoppages he's at. Quality of inside disposal is an issue as well. Nowhere near enough does it get to someone in space. Judged against what he's always been good at it was a fine year. But his lack of consistent defensive action is one of the reasons we give up pressureless clearances to our opposition and get torched through the middle in general play. Will be interesting to see how he's used and whether a mobile defensive zone can cater for a player who's job is to just get from stoppage to stoppage and stand under the ruckman.

I'm one who doesn't think Lyons is capable of being fit enough to play consistent four-quarter footy. I also don't rate his kicking.

CEY, Matt Crouch and Gore will all be ahead of him in 2016, IMHO. Even then I reckon we should only be play two of those three each week, as long as Thompson is in the side.

Major problem for Lyons imo.

Agreed.

As I stated previously, if the opportunity arose, Id almost be very much tempted to give Gore a run over Lyons as I think he has a much higher ceiling. Invest games into him now.

i hope Pyke gives a decent amount of time in the centre square at the start of the season.
If he doesn't cut it, we can give Grigg & Gore a run but i feel his clearance work is very good and his best position.
He just hasn't had enough time in there.

He's going to struggle big time in my book , may play a good quarter here or there but won't be consistent enough .... Need to become an athletic animal in this game even if it's just your endurance or your strength in a contest

He's just average across too many categories

Would give CEY and Grigg more chance

Some good points

But the thommo bashing is pretty hilarious

Just go watch a re run of his 2015 season ... Showdowns for starters

Fair enough he is not the future but let's not re write the past

More like let's not re-write every game as being the equivalent of his showdown performance. He had some poor games for a guy who's at as many stoppages as he is and having the ball directed at him as often. Combined with the reality that he can't spread in either direction and you'd come to understand that his overall value is less than his raw posession count. He did have a few very good games, 1st up was a belter as were his 2 following byes from memory. Plus 2 or 3 more.

Thommo was the next best Midfielder in most stats behind PD, His effective count was the best, His Effective to scores was the highest. And he played behind the ball as per coaches request. You do know he was the first player they put back into the middle when teams got the run on.
I use to think he burn't the ball too much until it was highlight to me how many goals the Crows scored from him getting the ball first. He had a habit of shooting out the passes to a running player on both sides of the body.
I don't think you understand the role he has played in the last couple of years And don't use TV s the medium to judge,
Look at his heat map you may appreciate his value more.

3 below par games in second half of season , 2 of them when we won by over 14 goals

2 big showdowns and 2 big finals as well as numerous other good performances ( above par )

Seemed to play best in the big games or when we needed him most . One of his most consistent seasons

I'll be surprised if he plays to that level again but he certainly played to more than an acceptable level

in terms of what his role in the side is , he performed it regardless of his weaknesses
