If it came down to a choice between GC and us I think we would be in the box seat, as I don't think they would able to afford the unlimited supply of sun screen he would demand if he was to move up there.
He'd miss half the season with third degree burns :p

What is great hear is that we really do have some serious wiggle room in this years trade period, and given our ability to snare out of contract players over the past 3 years, you would think that with a state of the art facility, a club that is likely to play finals over the next few years, and to play with Judd would be pretty tempting to get a player to Visy Park.

My thinking exactly HBF.

GC17 will lure more than a few players away from their current clubs.

Its a silver lining for us.

We have both the $$$ to match a GC17 offer for the right player, a great young list, top notch facilities, a big club, and a fantastic opportunity for multiple premiership success over the next ten years.

If we can convince the uncontracted player to come to CFC rather than GC17 for the same $$$, the 'compensation' pick from the AFL should not be hard to trump at all.

I see GC17 (and WSYD next year) as a great opportunity to access players that would normally be off limits for a bargain basement price (in terms of players/ picks).

And to be honest, I dont think the club stockpiled the current $$$ wiggle room by 'chance'

We will target a star player or two this year (and next) IMO.

I can't see us getting Roughead in any circumstances. He seems a pretty low key loyal fella and as a premiership player unlikely to be busting a gut to leave. If he did leave it would only be for money and surely GC have more of that than us no matter what "war chest" we have as GC have no Judd Murphy Gibbs etc to fit in plus they have extra money in their cap. As for trading why would Hawthorn accept some B**lls**t trade involving Jacobs etc. If they said no to us he would have to go into the Post season draft and Carlton would not have the first pick in that so their is no way he would get through GC or Richmond would pick him up before we got anywhere near him. The only way I could see us getting him is offering Hawthorn an absolute gunn like Gibbs or Murphy who to be honest they still would not go for as they have a good midfield and of course we would not offer those players up either. So a big no from me.:)

They certainly do. Remember around 1 to 1.5 million is going Abletts way already.

as GC have no Judd Murphy Gibbs etc to fit in plus they have extra money in their cap.

GC may very well have a few players of the calibre of Judd, Murphy and Gibbs by the time thier trading/ nabbing uncontracted players is finished.

Its either that or accept the bullshit AFL compensation pick that cant even be used for two years, and will most likely suck anyway.

Exactly.

Accept GC17's (really the AFL's) 'offer' of a sucky future pick, or accept our offer of Hampson plus a 1st rounder now.

Which way would you go?

The only way I could see us getting him is offering Hawthorn an absolute gunn like Gibbs or Murphy

As I've pointed out not needed (this year) due to GC17.

On the other hand, Id happily swap Gibbs for Roughy.

Maybe we will get DeLedio cheap, recon he want's to be at Richmond? Maybe he wants to be like Mclean and come back to his family club.

As I said, if a player wants to leave their club and would definatly go into the draft rather than stay and they choose Carlton, then this lets us into getting that player for stuff all as all the club that player is leaving would get is what we offer or nothing, ah-la Port and the Nick Stevens deal.

I say we do go after a tall forward, like Franklin or Roughead but damn Deledio would be 3 times the player in our side than in Richmonds. We just need to convince a good player to come to Carlton, we have a lot going for us, open salery cap and premierships and finals in our future.

that would destroy richmond

I love the idea of poaching some ready-made superstars, but the archaic mechanics of the AFL's trading makes it a whole lot easier said than done, even if we DO convince a Roughead or Deledio or whoever that they need to be in the Navy Blue.

I know it's not happening, but I'm now going to allow myself to imagine one of those guys at Carlton next year...

Wow! It looked cool!

ahh geez Mal, would no way in hell trade Gibbsy for Rough. Can never have enough class in the Midfield. Ask Geelong

Somehow I doubt that Sticks would allow Gibbs to be traded.

Gibbs, who spent time with Denis Pagan and Stephen Kernahan last weekend, has a strong Blues connection.

Kernahan, the Blues' chairman of selectors, is a good friend of Bryce's father, Ross, who, like Kernahan, was a champion with Glenelg.

"Ross Gibbs and Stephen Kernahan go back a long way with Glenelg and there is a definite bond between Glenelg and Carlton over a long period," Stevens said yesterday.

I suffer from Schadenfreude :thumbsu:

But if that did happen I'd drop whatever i was doing at that time no matter how important to go on the Richmond boards :D

...where is the 'implosion' emoticon?

Can you 'suffer' from Schadenfreude or is it just a phenomenon?? JuddFevGoal should be on to it :thumbsu:

Yeah..

Still. Id do it.

Thats just how much I want a gun forward, and also reflects the value I reckon one would be worth to us.

Its no diss to Gibbs by the way. Rougheads a gun player on his own.

I just reckon he would bring more to the side (in a weak area) than Gibbs does at present (and for the foreseeable future).

I'm sorry to hear that. Does it itch a lot?

Just on Roughead:
There seems to have been a lot on talk on here and on the main board of his possible move away from Hawthorn.
It seems to have snowballed for no apparent reason other than for the fact it sounds right and feels good.
The real rumours should start hotting up in 5 months time.
I'm almost looking forward to the off-season more than what will happen on the ground for this year.
