However, the problems with your idea is the following:
1. If you get Roughy then you need to also get Buddy, Lewis and Murphy as they are all best mates.

That's just plain stupidity....They can have Murphy.

Interesting read this. Always rated Roughy better then even Buddy so would be a huge loss for us.

However, the problems with your idea is the following:
1. If you get Roughy then you need to also get Buddy, Lewis and Murphy as they are all best mates.
2. To even get him you would give up say at least 1 of your best players (top 5 on your list) and another very good player and on top of that you first draft pick. For such a young side that would be work too much against you. Think back to the Judd deal and how in the long term you probably lost that deal in hind sight.
3. His name is been thrown around Hawthorn as potentially a future captain where as I doubt that would ever happen at Carlton. He already more commands the forward line and probably coaches the forwards better then our spud forward line coach.

My opinion is that you guys have enough midfield depth to cover for a KPF in a similar way Dogs did the last couple of seasons. Players such as Judd, Murphy, Kreuz and Betts all can kick 40+ goals a year and will be a nightmare to coach against. Having Roughy in your side could possibly hinder that and may even work against you as he has a mighty huge presence at times.

I dont think that it would hinder us because we would still be working with a 2 or 3 tall forward setup and the delivery into our forward line would be directed to one of those with the small forwards hanging around waiting for the crumbs.

And with the mids you mentioned kicking 20-30 goals for us our forward line setup would be an absolute nightmare to coach against.

In fact, if Roughy came to the blues, in a couple of years, we would be a nightmare to try and coach against regardless.

Hampson, Grigg and Garlett (to play with his cousin)??? I'd prefer to keep the new Krakouer brothers together ;)

Um, yes, yes and yes. Well done. :thumbsu:
I have no rumours, innuendo or upyourfronto to support what I am putting forward here.
It just feels that if we were on the attack something like that may just be needed.

Would it be worth it for us?
I am one for supporting and developing your own by far and large, but that type scenario may just start to look a little tempting for both parties one may presume.

I would prefer to keep Garlett thanks... he is going to be a big part of our team in a couple of years... and will end up with more premiership medals than his cousin :)

Yes, but that goes without saying. ;)

I love the way Yarran and Garlett interacted over the weekend.
We just need Betts to fall into line before we truly have to pitch a label for the trio.

"Kraouker triplets" just won't do the job. :)

Eddie needs to get over his set shot yipps for starters... then after they take us to a premiership, then we work out the label...

So? They'd just no longer be working together. I wouldn't put too much weight on this mate.

Juddy had some good mates in Perth before he left to go back to WCE.

Why? He's uncontracted this year isnt he? He could simply say goodbye and walk straight into the GC and double his salary.

You could then either:

a) accept the AFL compensation pick (a single 1st rounder, that cant be used for 2 years, must be declared at the start of the season, must be used within 5 years, and comes immediately after your 1st rounder for that year)

or

b) Accept a trade (assuming the player is prepared to go to said club)

If you want a trade, note that the club of choice will NOT have to trade for his worth. They simply have to offer a better deal than the AFL compensation pick.

Would you rather a mid range 1st round pick in 2 years time, or a mid range 1st year pick plus a gun young ruck now?

And for what its worth, even in a 'fair' trade (which you wont get if he walks this year), how does:

Roughead (your star player) = [(our star player) + 1st round pick + another of our very good player)

??

3. His name is been thrown around Hawthorn as potentially a future captain where as I doubt that would ever happen at Carlton. He already more commands the forward line and probably coaches the forwards better then our spud forward line coach.

We would pay him more than you guys. Probably close to a quarter or a million dollars a year more.

For a bloke nearly half way through his career as a professional athlete, and coming up to the biggest and most important contract in his life, that's not chicken feed.

And he would command our forward line and not be forever in Buddy's shadow.

I disagree.

I really dont see how a very good key forward could make us worse?

We'd treat him right at Carlton. Then after seeing how good we treat our players, Buddy will request a trade.

Well done Swanny!! :p

Yep well done Swanny,

Judd to Slater to Roughie ..................GOAL :thumbsu: :D

Funny, but this might have been the Roughead Cup for us!!.
He looks out of sorts with his club,no-one honours his leads and when they do he looks surprised and dismayed.
We should seriously make this deal happen, give the guy a chance to shine, because he is stifled and underappreciated at the Hawks:thumbsd:.
Hendo and Roughead, a roaming pair of Waite and Setanta switch hitting forward and back, the 3 Amigo's,Houlihan and Fisher!!.
He could even up our forwardline in the run toward challenging in the next 2 years:D.
HE IS NOT LIKING THE HAWKS:thumbsd:
WILL LOOK SERIOUSLY GOOD IN THE BLUE:thumbsu:
