Some comments about him before the season began were horrific and I'm glad people are slowly starting to turn.

Should be right in the mix to skipper the side next year.

Really happy for the guy...despite his average disposal he has 10x more ticker than half the blokes in the side and gives his all for the jumper every single week.

The style over substance brigade are always about aesthetics and not about the issue. He goes in hard every week without fear or favour and that is why he gets picked. I think fantasy footy / Supercoach etc has coloured people's judgement about Geary. His kicking is a bit iffy but when there is a time to stand up and do the team thing he is volunteering at the front of the queue week-in / week-out. Not sure he is skipper material as I think that should be based on skill as well as heart and leadership but I love him all the same.

Skirts the edges of the rules these days but does it damn well. Found a nice home in defence, can run with the pesky small forwards all day and smother them, was particularly gratifying to watch him close down Anthony Long-Surname.

Putting my hand up and saying I was well and truly WRONG about Geary. He has always given in effort but I felt he might've lacked in other areas, he honestly has helped carry our back line the last 2-3 weeks, particularly in the absence of Fish and Dempster! Well done Jarryn!

Geary is a solid contributor.

I don't personally think he should be the next captain but I think he is best 22 and offers a lot.

His work rate is 2nd to none and his defensive work is brilliant. He can really limit the influence of an elite small forward opponent.

We can't have a team of Jack Billings-esque beautiful kicks. You also can't have a team full of superstars in a salary capped sport. I reckon it's how good your contributors are that are out with your 'elite player' bracket that win you premierships and Geary plays a role for us and plays it really well.

Always been a fan of his, love his commitment and workrate, his kicking skills let him down at times but he makes up for it in other areas.

Certainly wouldn't be the worst choice as the next captain with the leadership he shows on the field.

Was a cracker of a game from Gears yesterday. Defensively he was fantastic and he didn't butcher a single kick or handball that I remember, so it was possibly his best ever game. Kudos.

Love the way he backs back so hard into packs, too. Most others who back back do it softly and it's easy to hold them under the ball once they get to the pack, but he backs back so hard that he almost skittles the pack, as he did on one occasion yesterday. Hope what he does so well rubs off on the likes of White, J-Webb, Robbo, Rice and D-Mac.

FACT: Geary butchers the ball out of defense less often than the following players; Riewoldt, Montagna, Gilbert, Savage, Roberton, Dempster.
Says fact. Doesn't provide evidence.

Roberton has had some stellar kicks the last few weeks.

Thought it was self-evident. Butchering doesn't only come in the form of kicking.

Besides, I don't think you're focusing on the overall point. Perhaps a simple refusal to acknowledge its contextual basis?

I said years ago that I thought Geary would be the next Blake. By that I don't mean playing his exact position, but that he would be a similar type player in that would be an ultimate clubman, fearless to a fault, have a huge workrate, ultimate committment, defensively elite, but offensively at times awkward and would play many games in the red, white and black. Like Blake too he would get better and better over time. A bit of a late bloomer.

He is elite now in many aspects. But is still nervous with the ball. ie against the Dons he handballed back to Savage when Savage had no where to go. Stats will say that Savage turned it over, but it was a poor option to handball to him then. However many team mates did it many times more against the Dons as we were suicidely handball happy at times.

All players have faults. Geary's faults are now small in number and our outweighed by his positives. And indeed the games where he has had more than his quota of bad ball disposal have actually been few in number this year, and not for many games now.

If Geary is our captain next year that'll be one less fully paid member at our club.
Oh well.

Most people support the football club not individuals or selections etc.

Sad to see you go, but do what you have to do. Like Impatient Sainter, you would still post here though I hope.

Must say I'm usually the first to criticise this bloke when he butchers the pill (he's an expert at it), but by god did he play well on the weekend!
He single handedly held our very shaky backline together on the weekend.
I would honestly go as far as best on over Steven, his efforts were outstanding.
