Akermanis by far, loved watching him play at the peak of his career with Brisbane and even with us he was entertaining and still a valuable goal scoring option.

Haha. Gold. Hmmmm. Let me guess Acker in a landslide?

I know Stevie J and Acker played similarpositions, but a more apt comparison would be Nigel Lappin.

Stevie J is a freak but Acker is like his freakier brother.

Lappin was a fair bit better than Johnson as well imo and arguably as good as Acker although a different type of player.

Exagerration gets you nowhere.

Daicos >>>>> Acker >> Johnson >>>>>>> Milne.

Also had a better non-preferred than Acker and Johnson

daicos great, he finished playing before i was a keen follower of the AFL but better non preferred than acker? best non dominant side kicks i have seen j.akermanis, s.mitchell, d.jarman.
maybe someone should start a poll, jason akermanis v peter daicos?

I'd take Acker before Daicos. Put JA in a perm pocket he'd have kicked a shit load more goals. Fair few more hard ball gets too. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that JA would be one of the best 3 or 4 Mid/Flankers of the last 25 years. I'd take Johnson before Daicos too.

re. akers off field character, i spoke on this in a earlier post just above your post, if your interested/haven't read yet.
i have no problems with the lair on the field with stevie j. he is a very good player who shows overt confidence in his own ability, i would say that any body with an elite level of skills in any field of endeavor has this, some just don't show it in an obvious manner like stevie j and many others.

There are players who are exceptionally skilled and disciplined as well. Cyril Rioli springs to mind. Kicks miraculous goals but still chases and tackles and plays the percentages. That's the kind of stuff that wins you games, and I think Aker stayed within those margins far more than SJ has, which is one reason I'd have Aker in front.

Daicos left was ridiculous. On that hilights clip I posted he kicks as many non-preferred miracle goals as on his dominant.

Doubt any of them would be capable of kicking 97 goals in a season as a forward pocket like Daics did in 1990. Daicos was also a gun midfielder before injuries forced him into the forward pocket. If he had played his entire career as a midfielder then he could well have been regarded as Collingwood's greatest (although he is pretty close to that level anyway)

Yeah but could Daicos kick off both feet going at 100mph?
Most of Akers goals are going full flight which is extremely hard to do.

Yes and he also kicked way more miraculous goals than JA. I rate JA as a legitimate champion but Daicos was something else.

love cyril as well, i nearly included him in the poll but he has a fair few more years in him yet. on your linked video, you could find footage like that for most players who have played the game, maybe not as embarrassing for stevie j as that but around the ground ie. nick reiwoldt did something similar in a GF.
we'll just have to agree to disagree on the merits of being a "lair".

70 - 8.... wow
yep. when i started the poll i thought aker woul get the votes, but 70-8 so far, wow indeed. i thought more 65% to 35%.
both at their absolute best i don't think there is much in it. i suppose akers brilliance was more consistent and he played most of his career as an out and out midfielder. i would think if aker played his whole career as a small forward with short stints as a mid he would be an all time great small forward.

Daicos, Ablett Snr, Jarman . . . these guys kicked far more goals on their opposite foot than any other player. Not only kicked more goals but the distance they could reach was almost no different to their preferred kicking foot.
Akermanis was brilliant in the manor he didn't have to break stride before guiding the ball onto his boot. It always gave him that extra half yard over his chasers.

Talking about character... Did you happen to hear what Aker mentioned about Jimmy Stynes and homosexuality in sport. I know he mentioned them in a public environment but I keep forgetting what he mentioned. Can you remind me?

But Christopher Hitchens said the public were overplaying Princess Diana's death and people look at him with respect. Aker doesn't have a pretentious accent people hate him because his facial characteristics makes him look aggressive. He lacks the overhappy boy face most vit d deprived 90's youf haf thesedays.
