Person on the Dogs board who broke Hamling to Fremantle is now saying Johannisen wants a move back to WA and has a big offer on the table.

Logical assumption would suggest West Coast would be the likely bidders with Fremantle having acquired Brad Hill this year.

How would you feel about this trade pursuit?

Short answer is JJ would be a welcome addition to the club because he's a very handy player

As always though there's qualifications to that - what salary and what would satisfy the Bulldogs in a trade keeping in mind that our depth at HBF is stronger than any other position so we aren't crying out for another one

I'd suggest Freo are more likely to be looking at a rebounding defender and also have more of a track record at throwing money at returning WA players

The timing sounds odd as well

While we don't have anyone quite as quick as JJ in the half back line (unless we play Jetts there) I think we have enough options there that he wouldn't be a priority. And with the likely salary cap and trade cost that increases with a premiership/Norm Smith I wouldn't be inclined to take him.

This guy broke Jong signing a new deal in the same post as Hamling to Fremantle too. This was before any journos reported anything.

I'd say he's left his trade request about 6 weeks too late.
He was still contracted for another year. It expires at the end of 2017.

He's not an HBFer though, he just plays there when called upon.

He's a high engine midfielder that covers the entire ground. Think Andrew Gaff with pace.

He's a gun. Would be most welcome in the wings. Obviously the trade package would have to be right.

Could take a back pocket or preferably flank where his pace is best utilised, a midfield spot, or a small forward position (it'd be interesting to see his ability to apply pressure as a defensive forward).

With his pace and class he could dislodge one of at least 7 players (conservatively) in the best 22 from 2016.

Agree it's very odd timing...maybe this guy just got word from his source quite late, and it's on the table for next trade season (ie. it came out in the wash from contract negotiations at the Bulldogs in the post-season). Maybe that's wishful thinking.

His a good player but it's in a position we don't really need. I guess Hurns getting towards the end so maybe as his replacement down the track would be ok but he would cost a lot for something not really a huge priority for us. See what happens this season. Maybe that opinion will change.

He'd be a huge get.

We severely lack a player like him. I worry what we'd have to give up, but I'd be prepared to go hard for him, should he keep his form in 2017.

Reckon Freo will get him. They love a trade. Probably will offer their first pick

B Hill is an outside midfielder and JJ is a rebounding defender.

Dockers will be in his ear for sure.

I'd assume we'd be playing him as a midfielder though and based on what I've seen he'd be more than capable, I think he'd add a fair bit to our midfield with his pace.

Read the Bulldogs board and the poster that put it up is saying its Fremantle - suggesting it's a $3.5m v $1.6m offer but no mention of contract length which you'd assume would be different on those numbers

Vozzo was repeatedly banging on about how we didn't know the salary cap amount so I doubt we're throwing around contract offers just yet

It's not quite wanting to return home, he just got offered a serious contract that should last about five years. Five years on really good money will make anyone seriously consider a contract.

It's probably Freo that offered it, they would have money set aside to grab Hogan.

True, although we do potentially have a fair chunk of salary coming off the books at the end of the year. Emac might test free agency or if he signs it will be for significantly less, Butler will likely go, possibly Priddis & Mitchell. Then again I haven't looked at who's out of contract that we need to sign up, may take up a chunk of that money.

Contracted until the end of 2017 (15):
Eric Mackenzie - Signed 4-year contract (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) in June 2013.
Mark LeCras - Signed a 4-year contract (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) in June 2013.
Jack Darling - Signed a 2-year contract extension (2016, 2017) in August 2014.
Dom Sheed - Believed to have signed for 2 years (2016, 2017) in July 2015
Tom Barrass - Believed to have signed for 2 years (2016, 2017) in July 2015
Jackson Nelson - Believed to have signed a 1-year extension (2017) in July 2015
Sharrod Wellingham - Signed a 2-year contract (2016, 2017) in August 2015.
Malcom Karpany - Signed a 2-year contract (2016, 2017) in October 2015
Kurt Mutimer - Probably signed a 2-year contract (2016, 2017) when drafted
Fraser McInnes - Signed a 1-year extensions (2016, 2017) in December 2015
Matt Priddis – Signed a 1-year contract extension (2017) in March 2016
Josh Hill - Signed a 1-year contract (2017) in September 2016.
Sam Mitchell - Signed a 1-year deal (2017) when traded in October 2016
Sam Butler – Signed a 1-year contract (2017) in October 2016.
Tom Lamb - Signed 1 1-year contract (2017) in October 2016

Mackenzie and lecras will drop down some dollars off their existing contracts assuming they even stay on the list

Barrass, sheed and possibly darling will use up a decent chunk of those savings
