Seems footy classified is saying a game in the wizard cup 2003 vs geelong. Lead story

OMG...they are coming after Brisbane. If Robbo wasn't enough now that non descript imbecile Damien Barratt is adding his namby pamby comments to encourage a belief in "Jason McGrath" and his alleged misdemeanors of Lions player. Jeff Kennett (god bless him) says its 10 years ago. How far back do you go????? How coincidental that this is all blowing up just a few weeks before the celebration of the 10 year anniversary of a monumental occasion labelled the "Three Peat"?

Caro filming a bit of soft pr0n, she moonlights at that.

They're not suggesting the lions did match fixing. It's about people profiting from the knowledge that we would be resting 10 key players.

VERY poor journalism to label that match fixing. Very long bow to draw.

Incidentally "Long Bow" is the name of the soft pr0n flick Caro is filming. Set in Sherwood Forest, she plays Maid Marion.

From what i heard it really has nothing to do with match fixing or throwing a match - more somone at he club knew 10 premiership players would not play. Alegedly he made some cash by betting early in the week on geelomg when they were paying more. Nothing in it in my opinion.

Duritz beat me to it:)

So a pre-season Wizard Cup game from 10 years a lion official backed against us when we played the Cats on a wet night in Cairns - $2.70 into $1.65 on the back of the Lions resting 10 premiership players. Damien Barrett stated there is no suggestion that the players or coaches had anything to do with it. Thanks Scoop - what has this in fact got to do with 'match-fixing'. Struggling to believe this shit has got legs.

So there it is the great Lions Match fix scandal.
As Jeff Kennett said how far back do we go & where does it end.

Dare I say it I often backed against us when we were a power in these pre-season as I knew the mentality we took into these particular games. If you don't hear from me in the next 48 hours it most likely I have been abducted to a hidden destination being tortured in order to dilvulge my secret sordid bets against the Lions since our inception as a new entity.

PS. Don't worry I do a very good Schultz impersonation.

Who's playing Little John?

Has as much relevance to me as odds shortening on a Wizard Cup game in 2003.

Should probably also say it's now pretty obvious why the Courier Mail didn't actually print the details.

Why come clean that it's a non-story, when you can pretend you've discovered the biggest betting scandal since Pete Rose.

Was thinking the same thing. No doubt Hammo will probably write another article about it for tomorrow's paper though.

I really do hope the club pushes its media division hard this year. Using social media, YouTube and articles on the website they need to make themselves the best place for Lions related news, take some of the power away from the CM. seriously, but up good previews, game reviews, training and injury news, articles on players and their development, members roar, etc, etc.

Geelong posted its first win at any level over Brisbane since 1995 when they beat the rain and beat the Lions by eight points in a gripping quarter final played on Saturday night at Cazaly Oval in Cairns (aka Bundaberg Rum Stadium). The steamy conditions turned to torrential rain in the last term when the Cats successfully completed a come-from-behind bid.
Even though the Brisbane Lions were under-manned, their midfield was exceptional in the second term. Akermanis took charge and finished off his good work with two goals, while Hadley, White and McRae added further goals to put the Lions 37 points up at half time. After the break the game took an about turn as Geelong rammed on five goals, including an Enright 9-pointer and while the Lions kept their noses in front, in a last quarter downpour the Cats edged to the lead. It was anybody's, until a goal from PAUL CHAPMAN sealed it for Geelong, 41 seconds from the final siren.

Yep...unfortunately he accuses the AFL of being myopic, (A visual defect in which distant objects appear blurred because their images are focused in front of the retina rather than on it.)

Wonder what euphoric substance his "source" was taking to recall in clear detail what happened 10 years ago in a Wizard Cup...Hammo you've been conned by a druggie!

Unfortunately, the Brisbane Lions also suffer from the AFL's myopic view, angrily rubbishing reports in The Courier-Mail this week about drug use and match-fixing.

What a non-event. Feeling great right now that we can officially put all of this behind us.
That's what we all said yesterday. The jabs are getting lighter though. This is like the back end of the Rocky-Clubber Lang bout.

Rope-a-dope for the win!

Ah, you're too young.

So it's not match fixing. That's a relief.
It's not nothing though. If we knew this was what it was, why didn't we just say so? For that matter, why wait until the CM discovered it?
I suppose it's possible the current administration wasn't aware this had happened ten years ago, but if they were, why didn't they just give the details to the CM in the first instance?
What did the club do when it found out? Did we fire whoever it was at the time? You'd hope so. Or did we just cover it up and after a while it became too embarrassing to make it public?
Still some questions over this. Maybe there are plenty of answers but to be honest right now it feels like the club has fumbled this one a bit.
