Small, relatively nippy, left footed wingman/half forward flanker. Also played as a small defender on occasions. Could take a good mark for a bloke of his size. Pretty accurate around goal on the run. Sort of an improved version of Shannon Byrnes!!!;)

Ill never forget hearing the break, was right where it happened. Felt so sick after it.
I remember that too, It was bad, i was talking to him a few years ago about it, When we played a game at KP, It was funny cuz he jumped into 1/2 cats car drove around till he got the ball, drove it to the square and snaped the ball through, it was a classic :thumbsu:

I was close by also, heard the crack (like a gunshot ).Recall G.Hocking standing over him telling him not to move. Hocking's face went white with horror when he looked down on him.

Yep. He looked so sick. With poor snellys sock red as. You could see the bone out and everything.

His break was as bad as Browns.

I felt sick when I saw him try and stand on that leg with the ankle dislocated as well as a compound fracture.

Going on memory it was an awful break (i was there and saw him try and stand, just terrible) but I don't think there was an instant retirement as plenty of players make a 100% recovery.

However things didn't go to plan at all and his foot is no permanently fused to his leg, essentially he has no ankle joint. The only other option was amputation.

He was right footed actually.

Debuted in the first round of 1996, friday night game against the dees and booted three. Ronnie Burns also debuted that night. The same evening Gaz snr kicked 9.6 to outscore Melbourne.

As YOTC mentioned, was a good mark for his size and played mainly as a crumbing forward. Was held in high regard and certainly had a promising future ahead of him. Saw him around uni from time to time and never big noted himself either. I'm pleased he has made a success of this new venture.

Snelly was always a goal sneak. We tried to fill his spot with Aaron Lord, they were similair in many ways. I remember him being an excellent overhead mark for a smaller guy.

He did make a comeback attempt at one stage. He went through training etc, but the further along the training went the more painful it became for him so he had no choice but to give it up. He's been through many surgerys and i believe he still walks with a noticeable limp.

I remember having a training session with assistant coach Alan McConnell just after it and we asked how Snell was going and he said fine, should be back in a while. Al was wrong.

Snell was awesome. One of my favourite players during that period (I am tempted to call them the dark days, but we weren't really that bad really, I just hated Ayres.)
