Good grief. Most of this post is just completely made up. Guessing how another play or team might react to how this goes down.

Shhh. Enough of this factual evidence. Port offered him a great contract and Dixon has nothing to do with it.

How is that made up?

You compared losing roberton in the psd to Schulz going in the psd did you or did you not ?

I've simply pointed out that Schulz is nothing like roberton at all. I've Schulz is an established key forward who you are about to offer very good money to. Roberton was a player who had shown very little at the time and was barely even established as an afl player . He would have been walking to the saints on a contract on the very low end of the spectrum.

Or are you refering to where I ask you if you think it is possible that turning down a trade offer and making Schulz go through the entire psd when he doesn't have to could garner any bad relations with his manager or another manager down the track? I think that is a reasonable question to ask.

Lol again with forcing him out the door .. Port has had an offer on the table for Schulz all year..

He just has a better deal from freo..

Just because port are adding another key forward this off season doesn't mean we can't play Schulz .. Like no other team has ever played 2 key forwards with two rucks before? o_O
An offer and an acceptable offer are two different things.

So a one year contract for an over 30 year old is not an acceptable offer? Bearing in mind this has also been our approach.

He clearly didn't think so. Of course negotiations might be continuing and he may yet stay. I'm not sure he has stated he wanted to be traded yet.

Well it's an acceptable offer but whether he does accept it (which he isn't) is a whole other question.

Rumour has been that with Dixon and Ryder+having to re-sign the likes of Wingarg etc , you don't have much left over for Jay.
Yeah but that is exactly that. A rumour. Apparently we're maximising our 105% as we have the opportunity to do so. So we have topped up on player contracts meaning some players will be on more than what they would be for this season. Players should then be on lower next year.

Ryder, Schulz, Butcher, Lobbe and Westhoff

The above all played on the weekend in ruck or forward, what is the problem .... Also in 2016 with no sub the expectation is more clubs will revert to two rucks

I find that highly doubtful. Rotations cap is plummeting next year without the sub. Clubs will want to play a runner on the bench, not a ruckman.

Not sure who has signalled they'll go for two genuine rucks

Ok fair enough. I guess we will find out soon. Sounds like Boak is going to get in his ear. I hope he comes to Freo. Surely a highly paid working holiday in Perth for a couple of years or so, playing for a club that really needs his services , couldn't be all bad.

Don't quote me on that. It's just something that has popped up on our board over the last couple of weeks. Who knows, could be making excuses but I'm pretty sure RussellEbertHandball (I think?) has it down pat.

The thing I don't understand is why Schulz wants to pack up his young family from his home state and move to Perth for just for an extra year and slightly better pay. He could still get that extra year with us. We just have a policy that once your 30, you get taken care of 1 year at a time.

That's similar to our policy but Johnson got two from us at the same age because he was one of our best and was very important to our near future plans. Your recruiting and offer to Jay suggests that he isn't.

I have said we are on 105% this year as the club has said so and we are allowed to go onto 105% in 2016 given our 2013 and 2014 salaries bill was only the minimum 95%.

I have also said dont believe the figures in the media. 2017 is the first year of the new salary cap and no one will know what that is, until negotions withe th AFLPA are completed maybe March or even maybe July next year. The smart managers have players coming out of contract October 2016 so that the next contract takes benefit of the new higher salary cap. See Wines and Wingard for us. My belief is Ryder starts on about $500k, maybe less, and finishes on $700k over 5 years. I also believe the same will be the deal for Dixon. You just have to look up page 127 of the 2014 AFL Annual report (see Link) and see that only 23 players in 2013 and 20 players in 2014 got paid $700,000 or more. We would have 1 of those and maybe 2. We wont have to 4 in 2016.

And as I have written elsewhere, what people fail to realise is that there is a $1 million Additional Services Agreement cap which has to be paid 95% to the players and is in addition to the $10.1mil salary cap. The way you use this is very flexible and might vary greatly from year to year who gets what inside that cap. That helps with back ending and front ending contracts.

What I heard 6 or 8 weeks ago was Port have offered Schulz 2 years x $400k/year whereas Freo has offered 3 years x $400k/year. I dont know how accurate this is, but if its true, I know why Jay will probably go with the security of an extra year. $400k is $400k and if you have negatively geared an investment its not half eaten up in tax as you regularly read or hear in the media.

he wont last that long in the PSD

he will be 31 years old when the season starts again. he wants a 3 year deal. how many clubs you think will offer him a 3 year deal? if someone else picks him up beforehand, i really dont think he would care. its about looking after his family at a high salary as long as possible. Reality is that a brisabne wont take him, only a team with their window open would want him. So he has nothing to lose really.

brisbane are desperate for a ready made tall, even if its 3 years at 31 years of age

Well the coaches that have suggested this are wrong then obviously.

No another Freo poster did. Then when I quoted him with a reply you then quoted my reply to him as to you. So that's why the last time I thought it was you. ...

It was me your referring to and again my example was not comparing Roberton to Schultz - there is no argument that Schultz is the better player. I was merely pointing out that we lost someone we put 3 years of development into, who could have another 10 years ahead of him for nothing via the psd. This illustrates the brutal nature of the afl when it comes to trading etc . I don't think this will stop us trading with the saints in future.

Anyway, we are going to agree to disagree...if Schultz comes to freo my bet is via the psd. If port get something for him from freo, good luck to them, if they don't - stiff, if he is picked up by someone else other than freo via trade or psd, good luck to Port and/or Schultz.
