Excellent performance by Schulz. Hopefully that will give him and the coaches confidence to know that when he is played as the key marking forward he can deliver. I guess it's a stretch to assume we'll kick to a key tall moving forward. He beat everyone North Melbourne threw at him today.

Well done Jay. A fine performance.

Richmond has won some recent games by throwing marking forwards up there and kicking 'long' to them. They have some midfieders that can do this, but it shows that if you can penetrate deep to your forwards with any level of control and your in the mix. We haven't done that for years.

Shulz looked good coming out the square. Stewart (unti injured) looked good further up. Another similar size that can provide a leadup, Ebert, Motts, and Hitchy, with another crumber to rotate through Ebert/Motts role and we structure up OK.

Im just concerned we dont have the quality disposal coming through the midde to utiize, but id rather give it a crack anyway.

Don't see why not - Nason our second highest goalkicker, one of our best in two of our wins as a first year player, and Farmer becoming one of our best small defenders.
Farmer still isn't quick enough to be a genuine small defender. Maybe as a midfielder he got play some sort of a role but he's not a player I miss that much.

We wouldn't have drafted Nason. If we had an extra pick, it probably would have been used to snap up Hitchcock earlier.

Can we just keep this about Jay Schulz. Farmer and Nason are irrelevant to us.

Excuse me? I watched the game, and I watched him all the years he was at Richmond. I've also seen you lot biting his head off after his efforts in previous games.
Ah. Right. So the only time you've seen him play for us he kicks 7. Don't bother posting unless you're full of praise then. :thumbsu:

People 'bite his head off' because they only look at the stats.

Wouldn't it be something if he could finish of the next nine weeks by scoring another 30 goals. We need a little ray of sunshine and a goal-kicking tall forward gives us something to smile about.

I hate our coaches for taking that away from us for far too long.

By the way, those talking him up, he is not the second coming of Hey-Zeus himself after that one performance. He actually has done this at Richmond before, so lets see what he does for the rest of the season. He was complete arse for us for a few weeks before he was dropped. Well done today, but lets try not to annoint him as the next big thing.

That is not the point. IMO the posts are more about using tall players as the KPPs, as opposed to a short tall, than about being the second coming.

On top of that, a big well done to Sculz for a good game. :thumbsu:

Well done today Schulzy, now keep going with it, I wanna see a few more bags of goals for the rest of the year

Played the game of his life today

That's the problem. He may have just played the best game of his life, and he probably won't ever reach those heights again. I'd love him to prove me wrong though, another Richmond success story would be nice. Maybe Meyer will be the trifecta, he looked alright today too.

Well done Jay. Fantastic game with some excellent leads, some great contested marks and some excellent goal kicking. Hold your head high mate.

Also well done Choco for playing a tall forward leading out of the square and another tall forward as lead up CHF.

No doubt, Ebert's absence contributed greatly to the need for us to play to this structure. Alas, when he's back next match, we'll get more of the wide leads and marks on the boundary line 50m out.

He was fantastic today, he grabbed everything that went his way and kicked well.

If Port actually used the corridor all game and went long to him he would have kicked 15. This guy was torched by Wallace at Richmond and it would be sad to see Williams do the same to him, he has been good all year but today was a big step forward. Really need the coaches to believe in him and get the structure right to give him every chance to deliver.

Uh, no. I watch every game every week because of Dreamteam.

^You watch every game because you have no life you mean.

Well done Schulz, excellent individual game from him today. Hopefully he will get confidence in himself from this effort to be a regular goal scorer/mark taker from now on. And hopefully the coaches get the confidence in him to play him deep in the forward line and go to him from now on.

Showed today that full forward is the position he's best suited to. Hopefully he won't be tried at CHF any time soon.

Absolutely!

The 'saviour' role is reserved only for those kicking 7 goals in a SANFL game.

;)

Cos his hair makes him a worse player? Why are we insulting other team's players? 7 goals for Schulz, has done all that has been asked of him and then some. Really proves how good a power forward is to be your no. 1 target. Gotta sneaking suspicion that te coaches will somehow be blind to that however.

I was quite disappointed we traded him as I think he suffered a lot under Wallaces 'tutelage' He would have been the perfect other big body in the forward line to compliment Riewoldt with our young KPP to develop over the next year or 2.
He was put in more positions than the karma sutra handbook and left the cluba worse footballer than he came to the club thanks to Wallace. I hope he plays well for you guys and gets many more seasons under his belt..

Well done today and good luck in the future Big Jay..:thumbsu:

Both teams so far would be happy with the trade. A win-win so far for both clubs.

Schulz has always been a talent. I've always been a fan of his and think he has plenty of ability. A nice grab and can kick the ball beautifully. He would have complimented Jack up forward but it is good he is still kicking on at Port and looks more then a handy player. :thumbsu:
