I have two bulging discs at 28 and I have good days and bad days but it isn't stopping me from running or high intensity interval training. Also hasn't stopped me from a majority of weight excercises aside from deadlifts and barbell rows.

It's a complete campaigner though, I get sciatic pain and the ocassional sharp nervy stab in the lower back. I really want surgery but my MRIs keep showing I'm not impinged at all, I beg to ****ing differ.

Dude, the running is making it worse. The jolting is no good. When it gets to the point where every time you sit or get up you have sharp pains shooting down your leg, its definitely surgery time.

Nahhh, it actually gets worse if I stop running. It craves it for some reason. It's definitely not getting at all worse. Rest is the worst thing for it for me. I just pop to the physio ocassionally and it's all good. I'm not putting my life on hold for it, it's a campaigner but I accept it will be there likely forever. I've never had any aggressive treatment on it. My doctor mate wants me to get an steroid epidural but I told him to get ****ed and keep that needle the **** away.

Same with me. I'm usually OK and just get on with my day but sometimes I get really painful in the back. It usually goes when I take a long walk from my house down to the Port club and back up Port Rd. I've also stopped sitting in my easy chair.

Ahhh I feel for you feel and anyone that suffers.

Backs are terrible such an isolating pain that people can't see. I was a bit the same exercise did and does make my back feel better.

I used to have back pain after a couple of hours sleep and wake up almost unable to move. Then it was the if I am sitting I want to stand and if I stand I want to sit. Then had some weird stuff with my eye and sinuses.

Long story short eventually looks like its ankylosing spondylitis so at least I now have some good meds. Glad for that as the constant pain took me to some dark places.

All the best to Jay. One of those (and damn we could use him now) who looked and acted like he gave a damn.

Every situation is different with backs.. Look I reckon if they told him that he would of hung them up by now.what's the point..

Yep. Spot on re-backs. I've seen people recover brilliantly from violent spinal trauma and others who have had minor injuries that have caused chronic pain for life. I just wish people would understand that. Backs can be nothing more than an annoying discomfort to a debilitating chronic pain injury with little to no diagnostic variation.
I'm on the list too. Just like Portwon above I have spondylitis and bulging discs and consequent sciatic pain just like Feel. Most days they cause little concern although I have unfortunately had to give up hard physical labour.
The only reason I am aware of the issues causing these relatively minor problems though is because of the essentially undiagnosed thoracic spine problems I have which cause me ten times the grief of my lumbar problems. Seriously, it gets to the point of being unable to take a full breath and if I push and push it eventually I start reaching (heaving/vomiting) and yet the 'best' diagnosis is fascial pain.
The only medication that 'helps' puts me to sleep and then I don't feel it. I refused the medication eventually as I didn't want to become addicted. Pretty much the same reason I've steered clear of hard social drugs too. I think I have an addictive personality.

I Dont Care could trump us all though I reckon. I'll take what I have over what he has to endure daily.

Good to see his vid on Facebook showing him running now :)

Dr you should look up a guy called Dr. Stuart McGill. The guys is the leading lower back injury/prevention/strength guru in the world. Has written over 250 journal articles. He is what we call in the industry a 'big fish'. He has 3 books about back performance, each as good as the next. You seem switched on enough to read it and digest it.

Don't get surgery until you've given his stuff a go. Movement is key.

Having also hurt my back in the past, I can confirm that movement is the key. Sitting around for long periods or sleeping in longer than necessary is an absolute killer for me. The more exercise I do, the better I feel.

Obviously everyone is different, and Schulzy's core strength would be well beyond my level. I think his ability to stay motivated and have the best support around him in his recovery is probably a bit underrated on this topic.

Had a mate I used to play with, missed years with a bad back, I can't remember the specifics but he found Pilates and that got him back on the track.

It was years back but I always remembered the story, probably because I thought that at the very least the perve factor alone could make it worth while :D

Saw jay out at st kilda playground with the family today was good seeing him getting around went down the big slide with the kids but was still looking very stiff whilst walking around.

Felt like a little school girl as he walked up behind us he turned around and i was trying to kick my mate and let him know he was there but he was to busy watching the kids from falling of the slide or something.

This would be a huge inclusion but my expectations are somewhat tempered, it will take him time to build match fitness.

whats the chances of going around 1 more? i mean he wanted a 2 yr deal....
im pretty sure Schulz has a trigger in his contract for a 2nd year, i think it relates to how many games he plays this year and from what i have heard its a pretty low number, i guess that is why he would be desperate to get back as soon as he could.
