Jay-Z appreciation thread

Well if you think those are Jay's best songs then you clearly don't understand or appreciate the man's best work. Also I never understood why an individual rapper would call themselves "The Game"...fine name for a group but not an individual.

BTW good work on posting that How to Rob clip rJ, great song.
Why would a rappec call themselves 50 cent?

Just because i like those songs doesn't mean i dont understand or appreciate his work, he just isn't that good, maybe i am basing my opinion too much on his new stuff though.

Nas > Jay-Z

Although as collective works Jay-Z might just be in front. I still like Nas more.

2pac (Best ever full stop no returns...better times infinite plus 2 more then anyone else no matter what)

Nope - Tupac was good, but he wasn't the Second Coming of Jesus like everyone makes out.

2pac was a mastermind, a poet and the best rapper to ever grace this earth. There is a reason he is rated by almost everyone as the greatest rapper ever and why every rapper has the utmost respect for pac.

Ambitionz az a ridah

brendas got a baby (song not too good but great lyrics)
Hail mary (reported to have been made in under 1 hour)
Thugs get lonely too

i could go on forever aout his best songs. Fact is he spoke to the people better then anyone else and he had mass appeal because he 'kept it real'

The respect that he gets stems more from his political "speeches" and music.

Besides that, Big Nas and Jay Z I rate, easily over him, there lyrical content and flow tops Pac.

He is not universally rated the best rapper. I would say anyone with more then a basic interest in rap would not claim Pac was the greatest ever. Tupac is rated as the best by people who's entire collection comprises of Death Row records.

Keeping it real? Tupac was not a gangster. I believe Pac could have become so much more then he did, but signing with Death Row held him back....

Pac was only 25 when he died so he may have had another 5 years to rap in his prime (conversely there was a chance he could have gone even more commercial). He was a good rapper but his flow wasn't as good as someone like BIG. I think he's highly rated due to the cult surrounding his death (you know, all that 7-day theory crap, plus West Coast rap is more popular)

Completely wrong. Universally he is reconised as the greatest rapper ever. Anyone with more then a basic interest in rap eg: every american rapper whom wishes to collaborate with pac and who always list him as the one who inspired them/favourite artists. Talking about flow is stupid, bone thugs n harmony have more flow then anyone but aren't considered the greatest. 2pac sung about things that mattered, he could create records faster then ay other rapper and had superior rapping abilities. The only people lyrically as talented as 2pac are eminem and B.I.G.

2pac was very much a gangster, although not part of a gang he grew up in the slums, got into gang fights, allegedly r*ped people, shot people, got shot etc. What more do you need to be gangster?

Believe what you want then. If you think everyone universally acclaims Pac as the Greatest. Rapper. Ever. that's fine, I disagree. No point continuing this arguement, not going to go anywhere :thumbsu:

yes i used to be like him, now i like all music ... except that emo/punk crap lol
Strange but I'm exactly the same.. I used to be one of the people that said all rap sounds the same, it's all about bling bling bitches hoes.. but now I've realised that wasn't the case... However I just can't get into any modern Punk (Emo) bands.... Taking Bck Sunday, My Chemical Romance, The Used... A terrible genre with a terrible group of listeners

alright cool, by universally i mean by the majority of people, not as in every single person.
I have never heard anyone say Tupac is the best rapper ever. Heard plenty say BIG, Jay-Z, KRS One and Rakim, but never Tupac.

He influenced a lot of rappers, especially anyone that claims to be a "thug" but the best ever... please.

Listen to Ready to Die, Illmatic or the Blueprint and compare them to anything Tupac could put together.

And 50 being the biggest gangsta, hugely questionable as well. He is probably the most heavily publised. But wasn;t The Game a Crip or a Blood and Snoop was in the rival gang. Thats pretty hardcore.

Seriously, your comment is pathetic. Pac was a back up dancer who turned gangster to make money.

FACT.

yeah the game's brother is a blood and snoop is a crip (but not hardcore into it, he has better things to do) but yeah i watched a doco on the game and him and his brother were both put into foster homes as boys coz their dad was a psycho and his older bro ended up in a bloods part of compton and he was placed in a home in a crip part of compton and i dono he was only like 8 or 9 years old and so he still hung out with his brother and yeah he was accused of gangbangin and all that and i'm pretty sure he is a blood now... 50 is from Southside Queens anyway so he ain't part of the hardcore L.A gangsta sh*t

Lil eazy is also a crip, doesn't mean anything. Yes game is also gangster, snoop not so much.

don't know why you're so different because everybody i know claims 2pac to be the best they've heard.

exactly, pac's "legacy" has grown over the years due to teenagers waering his t-shirts

pac was a rapist, not a thug, he never did anything of his "thug" antics whilst he wasnt with death row

suge made him who he was
