I play suburban football, but as a defender i have the common sense to realise that on a taller opponent you play in front, and on a smaller opponent you should be smashing over the top of them.

Post was lost out there, played behind on Kreuzer, and at one stage got beaten in a one on one with Bryce Gibbs.

I'm seriously concerned about his prospects. He's definitely not a defender.

Thoughts?

Well kruezer did not tear us apart so he (Post) was not in the worst 6 players.

I pretty much watched him the whole game because i know a lot of people have debated on here as to whether he's a forward or backman

HE IS NOT A DEFENDER!

Was woeful yesterday, basic decision making was blatantly missing! Tell me how someone of his height can allow Bryce Gibbs to outmark him in a one on one sky ball contest?

An Idiot's guide to being a defender

1. Watch the football as it comes in, feel for your opponent rather than turning your body away from the incoming football

Jayden Post - Fail

2. On a taller opposition player you should play in front at all costs, or be able to fly high over the top for a spoil

Jayden Post - Fail

Try him up forward, if that fails... delist

He has never shown anything that remotely suggests he will be a quality player. Im convinced its all been a bit of deception starting out when he first arrived and had the rosy red cheeks and long hair and looked like a young Richo. A few games he flew across packs and that seemed to back it up even more that we "might have a good one here" But looks have been deceptive and his ability hasnt lived up to the internal hype.

Wouldnt be surprised if he was shopped around, and if their are no takers i would think he would only get one more year to try and show something.

It's this simple - Rance, Moore and Newman are the only quality defenders we have (and Newman is more a rebounder if anything). I thought Rance was okay yesterday.

He mauled Walker in the first half and was made to play on a Waite who was already up and about from embaressing Post and Thurstfield

Play him up forward, kick it to him and see what happens. Needs at least 6 games in row (In one position) before I'm prepared to pass any judgement on his actual potential/ability.

When he played up forward last 3 games last year i thought give him some time and we will have another good forward. That's why I'm so disappointed Miller has basically taken away from his development.

As for the defensive side of things bring in Goo and leave him in FFS.

Post wasnt that bad, was outplayed a couple of times later in the game.
Wouldnt have been easy for backmen yesterday with the effort from the mids. especially for someone playing his 2nd or 3rd game in the backline.
Post's development has been terrible imo. thrown forward early in his career, then back, then pinch hitting in the ruck.
Needs to be left in the backline for an extended period of time to see just how good/bad he is there.

/facepalm

Kruezer did nothing when forward on Post who continually stopped him when the ball came in.

Ok he stuffed up in one contest on Gibbs who I will remind you while being a midfielder is not small and is going to be one of the better players gooing around soon.

Give the kid a break he needs soem regular AFL game time to develop. Going from AFL to VFL back to AFL does not help. Put him at CHB and keep him there for the next 18 monts. Certainly is a much better option than mcGuane and Thursfield.

You play each opponent on his merits and height is something to you need to work around but body style, leg speed, contested marking ability, leap, physical strength, positioning etc etc etc the list goes on, theres no simple recipe for success. I was sitting right in front of the Bryce Gibbs mark. Posty went to the front and the ball came over the top. Gibbs is not known for his marking ability or his body on body work, it looked like post wasn't trying to kill the ball but win it by going to the front wind took it higher than he thought, it happens. I thought he well and truly beat Kruezer and Walker when he was on them. Some midfield pressure would have helped all our defenders out yesterday... except Thursty ....So much negativity for the guys that were on the arse end of the beating yesterday when it was the "A Graders" that went missing not the poor guys trying to hold back the Tidal wave.

Thought he was probably our only winner yesterday. Did a terrific job on Kreuzer and looked to me more comfortable than he ever has up forward.

Gibbs had a 3-4m advantage in front of him. Is that a 1 on 1 wrestle is it?
You must have a 5m diameter gut and sound like a shit defender judging from your thoughts of his game lol

I agree 100%. Taken in the same draft as Vickery, so he has been in the system the same amount of time. Vickery has gone past him in terms of development and being able to find his feet in the team. Now we have Griffiths coming along shortly, the only place Post SHOULD of been played, in the forward line, may be taken. This kid needs to be left in the side, playing as a permanent forward to see if he can improve. If not, I don't think anyone would be interested, except for a rookie pick.

If you want to delude yourself then go ahead, he had plenty of time to time his leap and spoil the ball. Like I said, i play park football and an average joe like me could see blatant defensive deficiencies in his game.

And the guys saying that he killed Kreuzer - Lol, watch the game again please.

Is not a defender.

Yeah he's not a defender because he didn't make a great spoil. Well done :thumbsu:

How about you read all the previous posts before you get on your high horse MT, i said that i watched him closely for the whole game (because watching the game itself was no spectacle), it was not just the gibbs contest, but also manning up against Kreuzer and the fact that he seemed to always be looking for the man rather than going the football.

Seriously, watch the tape again and come back to me.

I saw Martin outmark Bellchambers when we played Essendon a few weeks back. I've also seen Cotchin out mark talls before as well. To single out an isolated incident like that and use it to suggest that Post is useless is quite poor. Also given the fact that the ball was coming into the Blues forward line at a rate of 1 in 5-6 Carlton disposals I really don't understand how anyone can be giving our defenders a hard time, but hey I suppose its easier to go after someone like Post than point fingers at the 'champions'.

If you look at my first posts, i mentioned other things other than just the Gibbs incident. I just don't think he's a defender, play him up forward. He looked all lost at sea on Saturday, i pretty much watched him the whole game.

As I said the Blues averaged an inside 50 every 5 possessions yesterday, often with little to no pressure being put on the ball carrier. Even the best defenders in the league would have been made to look like shit with that sort of avalanche happening let alone a guy playing his 17th game overall.

I hope you're right, but whilst i'm no expert i have played in defence my whole football career and reserve my right to an opinion, and that is that he's not cut out for defence.

His direct opponent, a considerably bigger man and one who can potentially win games for his club, was one of their more quiet players in a 103 point win. Playing up forward too. Post is judged on Kreuzer's output and one on one contests. Post beat him on the day.

I give up, he did not beat Kreuzer, i don't know what game you were watching.

Anyway, i'm over it. Watched him pretty much the whole game, just not up to it, happy for him to prove me wrong though.
