Speculation Jed Walter

Ok so you didnt read my post.

He will be needed when we start to contend in 3 years.

Not all the talls will be fit and available all the time.

Either Shanahan or Walter or Reid goes to defense.

You presume all the Eagles talls stay and none get poached. Archer Reid is on their shopping list.

Sounds like he is keen. And likely gettable at a discount. Clubs dont ignore young gun recruits if they want to move to them..
I can see Shanahan being a top defender in the same way I can see Naughton being a top defender. The problem is that you don't want to move a good forward, even if it improves your backline by more, as it's so difficult to get really good key forwards.

Hm, it looks like a lot of non-Eagles fans think the same, haha.

If Walter moves, it's because he does not play AFL with Suns. Most likely to a team that will guarantee him best 23 spot. To me it does not look like Eagles.

I still think Dimma will give him opportunity and try Read on the wing. Who knows maybe this Sun.

If the Dogs had JUH, Darcy, Naughton and now Croft who was a pick 15 KPF to fit into their forrward line, they would absolutely be moving a high potential KPF to their backline which is very well known to be devoid of KPD talent.
Would Naughton almost solely fix their KPD stocks if he went back? I think youd be pretty dumb to say no

While the Eagles may not be that extreme of a situation, with Shanahan, Archer Reid, Waterman and Walter we would be in the same spot, very little KPD talent but an over supply of KPF talent.
I didnt mention CDT as I have him pegged as our main ruckman in a few years

You absolutely do move a KPF back to be a KPD if the alternative is playing your very good KPF prospect in the WAFL/VFL lol

Eagles would guarantee him a best 23 spot though

We have a guy who rotates forward and back 5 times a game who could just stay in defence

More than happy for either Shanahan, Archer Reid or Walter to become the next swing man who can do the job at either end. Players need to be flexible.

Eagles won a flag because of having that very option.

Eagles likely lose Barnett, J Williams, B Williams, Flynn and maybe Maric over the next two seasons.

Wonder what contract the Suns will offer him?

Compared to others.

If Walter moved, it would be because of frustration at not being picked or being forced to play out of his preferred position.

Would seem odd to me to move clubs and face the same problems.
It is odd that the thing that gives me comfort that Shannon Neale isn't going to west coast, is the same thing causing anxiety that Walter will.

Surely they have greater needs than this?

Low time on ground and he played ruck. His value is dropping
So with his value dropping does it mean Suns will keep him on cheap? 🤣

Nah, when you play AFL and play well the value goes up not down

Nothing wrong with chipping in the ruck. Limited ToG is a valid point.

I don’t think his value really went up or down that game, had good moments some good marking, missed some shots, made some shots, did some silly stuff. Par for the course for him imo

Taking out the Eagles supporters who want him for a bag of chips and the GC supporters who want 5 first rounders, his trade value is a real hard one.

It's pretty much impossible to get an accurate guide now as there's too much to play out.

Personally I think his value is around what he was drafted at, he has no less potential now then when he was drafted

Hasnt been picked regularly and behind reid ugle hagan and king. They wont get anything near the pick 2 they paid for him. Id say something between pick 15-25 at this stage but gold coast do trade players away for a lot less than other clubs

My favorite part about a potential Walter trade. Is people thinking they will be able to convince him to move and become a defender haha… seen it here and on Twitter recently
I don’t think he’d be the one to move to CHB at the Eagles, but someone will have to. Shanahan is much smarter and would be better there than Walter for sure

Don't know if he's behind Ugle Hagan at this stage.

His worth now will be different by the end of the year.

Easy, I did not see any Suns supporter wanting 5 first rounders

I would say most Suns supporters want him to stay. Some doubt his footy IQ, all love his pressure, speed, combative style.

He is still just 20 year old kid and KPF. It usually takes time. Hawks Dear is another example.

Considering that some media rumours mentioned 1M offers for him his value could be a decent one. It depends how he goes this year. Possibly also on King staying/going.

Did* trade away players for a lot less.

No picks, no academy players and they are harder to draft moving forward anyway. Think you’ll start to see suns value picks the same as other clubs now
