Do you remember our recruiting crisis after Lynch went to Brisbane? I'm sure you Lynch Mob blokes remember the aftermath, in fact I suspect that was the death knell.
Anyway, what happened to Jeff Hogg after our demise? I think he spent at least one season in a Gippsland minor league. Any more news after that?

Hogg was swapped for Broderick, Gale & Dundas. Elliott was just poached. We were supposed to get Lambert from Richmond as well, but he wouldn't be in it. Fitzroy was desperate, as our whole gameplan had been about getting it quickly down to Lynch at full-forward. Hogg was seen as the best replacement available. Needless to say, it didn't work.

I think Hogg was playing coach for Murrumbeena in recent years. I'm not sure whether he is still with the same club, but I read that his team had a surprise win over Balwyn earlier this year. Balwyn has heaps of money, which attracts lots of ex-AFL players. Hoggy's team also included Frank Bizzotto. I would have posted this on Wayde's thread about the past players, but the details are a bit sketchy.

I knew that Frank Bizzotto returned to West Preston after 1996, and I think that Nigel Credlin is playing for Old Camberwell in the V.A.F.A, from what I heard

Thanks for the information. I knew about the South Gippsland connection, but didn't know about Murrumbeena. What a comedown from Richmond captain!

Hi all,

Yepp, Jeffery, Jeffery, Jeffery Hogg, was captain coach at Kilcunda Bass for a few years, playing alongside Doc Wheildon. As for the Murrumbeena thread, Darren Kappler is the player in reference, and apparently is still there in his capacity as playing-coach! The other Fitzroy player at Murrumbeena is/was Mark Bunn.

Cheers,
FitzroyRamone

Hoggy and Bottles - what a pair of great blokes. Not too good on the field though... Franky was a real hard player though. Hoggy, was just past it, and that back of his was fragile.

Anyone see Bottles' brother clean up in the cheer squad match, around 1995 or 96? Bloody hell he was good.

Saw Ange (Bottle's Bro) play against Northcote Park one day and he smacked Stroops a good 'un, Frankie got suspended whilst back at WP he clocked the Umpire apparently.

Jeff hogg was awefull. He ripped the club off for his own wealth. Richmond were very smart to boot him at the appropriate time. He claims he left richmond because he felt "unwanted". The truth is he demanded more than he was worth. Unfortunately we lost some quality players for this hack. from memory i think he kicked a big bag of 4 goals once..oohh wow! Hoggy was dreadful and as a struggling club we carried him for a good 2 years. He couldnt even take an overhead mark and as soon as the ball went near him he went to ground. Had 2 good years at Richmond, apart from that he was very very overrated and average.

He played in the triple-header round robin betwixt the Roys, the Roos and the Dees at Junction Oval one year, but it was the day after a very rare Roys win (Adelaide @ Adelaide maybe?) so many of us were a little down on out performances that day :D (I got home at 5am then turned up there at about 11am for the match and played like CRAP!)

I don't think Ange played the year before that one, which was Arden St v Roos, which we won.

It was after that Adelaide win as I remember borrowing a pair of boots from some bloke at a party which happened to be going on opposite where we were watching the Adelaide match. They saw us jumping around through the window so invited us over as they thought we were maniacs.

We were all very, very hungover that day but it was worth it.

I think Richmond got good service from Michael Gale, but Dundas & Elliott were never as good as they were at Fitzroy.
Elliott was not part of the deal. They gave us NOTHING for him.
Broderick was included with Gale & Dundas & he gave them excellent service.

Thanks for the clarification Fat Pizza. You're right, Broderick was a big loss.

Along with Matthew Armstrong, possibly the 2 most underrated onballers in the AFL whilst playing at Fitzroy.

The  face was aimed at losing Broderick & Elliott, who were 2 of my favorite Roys players & not even getting 1 decent player in return.

Armstrong was another very good player lost to the Roys during the 90's. His effort to come back so well after that shocking knee injury was amazing.
