sorry to intrude, but in fairness to the swans Richard Colless has been a god send... Maybe having someone who is not emotionally connected to the club can be a good thing?? who said you have to be a life long supporter to make a difference at a club (but then again, I dont think Jeff is the right man)

Sydney is a afl francise not a club.

This may not be the right board to vent my anger at this quote but I couldn't care less anyhow... What a ridiculous statement buddy, just because we are not the 'first ever existing club' and we are 'from a NRL dominant town like NSW' doesn't mean we are no less of a club then the dee's.. If anything, this means we have had to work our asses off to gain creditability amongst people in the AFL community, we could never simply rely on being 'a foundation club of the AFL' like some others... just try and show a bit respect to other CLUBS!

Is this some kind of sick joke?? He would immediately suggest that the city of Melbourne cannot sustain X amount of teams, the MFC being one of them, and would be extremely pro merger or pro relocation. Then upon doing so he would call it a big success as he would have saved the MFC in some form and demand all glory and power to him. There's no need to lose our nerve and go crazy just yet, think about is being suggested here, Jeff Kennett?? Surely it's a no.

The motivation behind Jeff for taking on new challenges has, and always will be, Jeff's ego. This is not necessarily a bad thing - ego does drive a lot of people to greatness (even if a % of them come across as *****). If his heart is in it, and he's doing it out of genuinely wanting to see Melbourne as a great club again, AND he's in for the long haul, then I wouldn't necessarily be opposed.

What does irritate me about this a bit is Jeff choosing to go public now with this statement. That's his way I guess - he has a big mouth. However, he has to be 100% that this is what he wants to do - because otherwise all he's doing is rocking a boat which is already in danger of tipping over.

Jeff can G&GF, the man would happily relocate us and sleep like a baby. His work at Hawthorn is exaggerated too, Ian Dicker turned them around and should get the credit for where they are now.

Are we kidding ourselves??? Several of you are saying we need 'Passionate Melbourne Supporters' at board level??? HELLO!? Where are they!? The last passionate hope we had is no dead (RIP JIM) and the other one who POTENTIALLY could help is a reformed gambler. Lyon ain't going to help, nor is any other Melbourne GREAT.

Jeff Kennett would GET THINGS DONE and he has a PROVEN record. Yes, he pushed to have us merge with North because under our current model, it is not sustainable - You all know it!? WE ARE ALREADY BACK IN DEBT!!!

Our board are clueless, this flows onto the football department, and then to the players. The fish always rotts at the head first; no different to our club.

Jeff would have my vote as I know if someone will take no shit and get the job done (and professionally too). Don't forget his 3-5-3 plan:

3 Premierships
50,000 members
In 5 Years

He wasn't far off that reaching the grand final a few times.

So much anger. I merely pointed out a fact, members of the Swans are not voting members and more akin to season ticket holders. So when speaking of presidents who for member based clubs are voted in by the members its best to use other member based clubs.

Until the transtion is done the Swans only have 1 member with any rights and thats the AFL, hence you are pretty much a francise of the AFL and not merely a moved SMFC.

P.S i live in sydney.

You would have to be bloody stupid to say no to Kennett. Yes he is a bit of a knob, but he did amazing things for the Hawks. Took over in 2005 and took a team that had 29,000 members and an attendance of 31,000 to a club with more than 55,000 members when he left (now 61,000) and has an average attendance of over 40,000. During that time he also took them into 2 grand finals.

People saying that if he took over it would destroy the club are stupid. The club is already self destructing. It needs radical change to survive. They can't afford to listen to naysayers.

Let's be honest, Melbourne is Melbourne. The club will never relocate. Sell a few games to stay viable maybe, but relocation would never happen with the MFC.

I'm a huge fan, but understand other fans' hesitation.

Stick fat, get to the games and back whoever gets the top job.

For those saying whoever gets the Melbourne job has to be a Demons person, I disagree wholeheartedly. Hell, I'd prefer them not to be.

Simply because no Demons person has done anything remotely good with the administration in the last 30 years.

Every one of them has been a crock apart from Jim, and I'm starting to turn on that too to be honest.

Kennett would purely be doing it for his big ego. He wants to be know as " The Man who took Melbourne from wilderness to glory."

I seem to recall Jeff wanted us to relocate to Gold Coast.

Go away Jeff...stick yer nose in elsewhere ...and feed that big ego of yours somewhere else.

No doubt mate! I pointed out Sydney because it's worked so well for them - Sydney is a club that's roundly admired these days.

And Colless has undoubtedly become a Swans man, and this was a bloke who wanted to change the club colours to light blue and dark blue or something similar!

I agree with your sentiments.

It is sad that Jeff needs to continually keep making big statements so he is front and centre in the media.

Surely he should see that being a shock jock is not becoming for a former premier.

His hair may no longer be big, but his ego seems to be growing.

MFC does not need Jeff!

And we could have Ricky Nixon, Jason Ackermanis, Mark Jackson and Warick Capper on the board as well! For f***s sake!

I notice a few people pointing out that it was Ian Dicker who was responsible for the Hawthorn revival and in fairness to Kennett I should mention that he wasn't trying to take credit for Dickers achievements. On the contrary, in the 3AW segment he made special mention of 3 club presidents who had turned around a club's fortunes. They were Frank Costa at Geelong, Eddie Maguire at Collingwood and Ian Dicker at Hawthorn.

Pardon my ignorance but who was the last president to leave a successful legacy at the Melbourne footy club ? In my particular life time i remember Ridley, Gutnick, Zondi ?, Johnson, Stynes and McLardy.
Without having intimate knowledge i know a few benefited the club financially weather it be through there own deep pockets or getting everyone on board but recently anyway several cub appointments have wreaked of boys club so perhaps an absolute outsider would be beneficial.
