Yes, but largely on the back of Ian Dicker from what I know about it. Any hawks lurker can add to this cos they would know better than me. Not sure they would exist if he had the role 15 years earlier.

Ian Dicker did all the hard yards. It was under his watch the successful move to Waverley was negotiated and the Hawks bank balance inflated due to the deal he negotiated with the AFL. Also put a lot of his own hard earned into the club when it was struggling. Kennett did, as he always does, took the credit for others hard work. The one thing he's good at is promoting brand Kennett. Perhaps one day someone will actually do some genuine investigative work on his corporate career rather that just accept all the puffery.Did the Hawthorn footy club improve under his watch?
Now we hear that McLardy's successors are either unwell or off to France.
FFS, give it to Jeff. Otherwise we are going to die at the hands of these inbred amateurs.

Let's start with a caveat. I cannot stand Kennett and I agree with the most of negative posts here about him and think the positive comments tend to overlook the damage to individual people that he presided over. But...
My experience in the real world is that the people who bring about change are not always those most suited for a job, or the best decision makers or even the most qualified. They are the people who really want the job. They are people who will travel, uproot families, make harsh decisions and have really (x10) thick skins to the opinions of others. What is most interesting in the Melbourne situation right now is that there is only one person who is saying, out loud, that he really wants the job. Freeman is going overseas. Stockdale has an election to run. McLardy has a business to sell. Experience tells me, despite all the commentary to the contrary, that he will get the job.
I do have to say, the more I hear things like Freeman is deciding if he wants the position the more I am leaning towards getting Jeff in. We need someone that wants to be there, not someone that has to think about it.
Great point, Kennett is the only one who is stamping his feet up and down saying I want to be president and I give a damn. He is also right in saying waiting another 6 months for the next AGM is 6 months of time wasted. If Freeman wanted to do it, surely he would've made a statement to that effect by now, clearly he isn't sure, and that means we shouldn't want or expect him to do it. If we were to call for votes now Kennett would win by default, I personally don't want Kennett, but I guess without an alternative it's hard to press a case for an imaginary person.

I still don't like the sound of it though. Kennett is hawthorn, through and through. It just doesn't seem right to me. Yes, he had success at Hawthorn. Because he cared. He doesn't care about Melbourne. Past comments cannot be ignored. He's chasing the coin, and the slight possibility of taking ALL the credit IF and WHEN thing's begin to change.
Along these lines, we can entrust the club to another Old Boy - I dunno, say, Stewart Caruthers-Smythe (an Old Boy from Scotch and quite a nice steady chap) or give it to Jeff - he wants the bloody job - and let him go for it.
I WANT Jeff.
If that were to happen, I don't think it would be by the hand of his own doing though. I really cannot put the two together with any confidence whatsoever. I don't trust him myself. But maybe that's just me. Whatever happens, happens. It is what it is.He does care about taking the credit if things go well.
He cares about that a lot.

Jeff wants the role, and has a history of success
We need someone who is going to invoke major change.
Make it so PJ
If you believe the propaganda from the man himself and the fellow travellers in the media in whose (circulation/rating) interests it is to perpetuate that stuff I can understand why you'd believe. Just in relation to the change in the State finances it was Alan Stockdale who is the one who deserves the accolades there. And he a true blue Dee.
The one thing I do hope for you guys is that whatever is the outcome it comes as a result of being put to the membership and not imposed on you.
