My apple watch does that.
Just design an apple watch like device that can't be removed very easily or that triggers an alarm if removed.
I'm sure there are a range of less invasive tech solutions for that sort of thing, if they really wanted them.

Prisoners in high security prisons aren't allowed access to the internet or anything that can be used to connect to the internet.

So your suggestion is to have a fitted device that does what exactly? Just monitors their heart rate and makes sure it's still pumping? If they wear it, it has to be able to transmit somehow to a monitoring station.

That's likely to be the least of issues with my suggestion.
The internet is not required to transmit data around a LAN wirelessly.
Shouldn't be too hard to have a device only talk to a local server via a LAN and not be able to talk to the internet.
Even with an iPad you can put it in Guided Access mode, with a password that locks it to only one or more Apps and nothing else.

It depends how long you would expect them to be on suicide watch for.

I don't know what it would be like over there, but I do know what it's like in Barwon Prison in Victoria and it's pretty intrusive for the prisoner involved and deprives them of sleep and basically what little creature comforts they may have inside. If you are rostered on to monitor them, you are required to get some sort of physical movement from them hourly. How anyone thinks this is good, I don't know.

It was only on the 25th last month he was found unconscious in his cell and had to go to hospital. Bit over two weeks.

And no way that were the photos of a dead Epstein..
Unless he had a reverse nose job and ear transplant?

The photos that were first printed in the NYT show someone in two different places, one looks like a hospital and the other a FDNY garage with the stretchers piled up on the wall and sign saying turn off engine.

I think Herne was responding to my proposition that if those incarcerated were important enough to keep alive and well enough fo make it to trial, they should receive special monitoring treatment for as long as it takes to ensure that they made it through.

You'd reckon the President would stay out of this but Donald Trump is retweeting conspiracy theory that points the finger at Bill Clinton. :D

Expect a lot more of this to assist secure a Republican win at the 2020 US Presidential election from putting voters off potential Democrat from voting at all at the next election in disgust at all political candidates. Same tactic as 2016. Way more ammo this time.

Another very high profile prisoner El Chapo is in the same facility apparently, it's being remarked on that he made it through to end trial.

Epstein’s suicide was likely recorded by jail cameras, according to Preet Bharara, the former federal prosecutor in Manhattan.
“One hopes it is complete, conclusive, and secured,” he tweeted.

..... said Lewis Kasman, a onetime close confidant of the Dapper Don .... “There are cameras going 24/7 and they’re watching 24/7. Someone had to give [Epstein] the equipment to kill himself and he had to pay for it dearly,” said Kasman, who has kept abreast of conditions in the lockup. Kasman added: “That facility for years had issues of corruption, with correction officers bringing in food or cellphones for wealthy people.”

If someone assisted Epstein suicide, might we see someone actually get caught by the cameras and prosecuted for this?

Democratic presidential contenders have criticised US President Donald Trump for promoting a conspiracy theory about the apparent suicide of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein in his New York jail cell.

Haha no s**t they are! I wonder why.

New claimed facts in the NYT (recommend you go read the whole article, its a free article after you login in (use your gmail to log in quickly), and after you get past all the initial screens setting up your profile.

1. Epstein suicide watch reportedly ended 11 days ago.
2. Epstein was taken off suicide watch on the condition that he would have a cellmate and get checked every 30 minutes.
3. Epstein's cellmate was transferred out (against procedure) prior to Epstein's reported cell death this weekend.
4. Every 30 minutes check up by 2 guards on Epstein procedure not adhered to.
5. Epstein hanged himself.
6. Chief Medical Examiner in charge of autopsy named as Dr. Barbara Sampson.
7. Epstein's lawyers had a Dr Michael Baden observe the autopsy examination.
8. Medical Examiner is confident it was suicide by hanging.
9. The 2 guards on duty at time of Epstein's reported suicide were doing excessive work hours.
10. Cameras in hallways and common areas, but not in Epstein's cell.

only 11 days after he had been taken off a suicide watch.

Mr. Epstein was supposed to have been checked by the two guards in the protective housing unit every 30 minutes, but that procedure was not followed that night, a law-enforcement official with knowledge of his detention said.

because Mr. Epstein may have tried to commit suicide three weeks earlier, he was supposed to have had another inmate in his cell, three officials said. But the jail had recently transferred his cellmate and allowed Mr. Epstein to be housed alone, a decision that also violated the jail’s procedures, the two officials said.

At 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, guards doing morning rounds found him dead in his cell. Mr. Epstein, 66, had apparently hanged himself.

Officials cautioned that their initial findings about his detention were preliminary and could change.

The law-enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation said that when the decision was made to remove Mr. Epstein from suicide watch, the jail informed the Justice Department that Mr. Epstein would have a cellmate and that a guard “would look into his cell” every 30 minutes. But that was apparently not done, the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the death was still under investigation.

The city’s chief medical examiner, Dr. Barbara Sampson, announced on Sunday night that her office had conducted an autopsy of Mr. Epstein, but she declined to release a determination about the cause of death.

She said a private pathologist, Dr. Michael Baden, who was hired by Mr. Epstein’s lawyers, had observed the autopsy examination.

The medical examiner is confident the cause of death is suicide by hanging, but she wants more information from law enforcement before releasing her determination, a city official said.

The two guards on duty in the protective housing unit where Mr. Epstein was housed were both working overtime, the prison official with knowledge of the incident said. One of the corrections officers was working his fifth straight day of overtime, while the other officer had been forced to work overtime, the official said.

Eric Young, president of the national council of union locals that represents guards at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, said there were cameras in hallways and common areas, but not in the cells of the unit where Mr. Epstein was being held.“From the moment you walk onto that property, you are under camera surveillance, ” Mr. Young said, adding that there should be video evidence of when the last checks were made and of anyone who approached Mr. Epstein’s cell./quote]

Hanging by what? Did the guards turn a blind eye to shoelaces in his pants or something?

Those cells, the clothes he wears, etc are not supposed to have items where one can hang himself. So how did he do it?

That might remain a closely guarded secret, in order to minimise the risk of copycat self-inflicted crimes for others in a similar situation and the same resources to self inflict.

"Self-inflicted" - do you really believe that?

With the sort of people and organisations involved in anything to do with Epstein, I'd advise everyone to be wary of just believing what you see, hear and read without actually being there close up, and making sure that you were not dealing with some realistic face masks like in the movies. There's so much at stake in this case, that to expect the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, is ill advised.

Way too early on this one to make a call one way or another. Although, I'd expect that Epstein had planned for the current situation and had a whole host of plans ready for this, including ones involving trying to get him our of jail under the pretext of some kind of medical crisis, and then to possibly be declared dead, when he was not, and to get whisked away to someone to live a few more years in freedom of sorts. Whether he would actually be able to execute or successfully get away with any plan like this, I haven't the foggiest. So many things could go wrong in a plan like this. He could probably easily be doublecrossed by those who are meant to help him, even if the plan did commence.
