TBH I'm a little disappointed he weaselled his way out of this. I can totally understand Virginia not wanting to go to trial though (and be re-traumatised).

Would much rather all of the abusers get named and shamed. Hopefully Ghislaine spills the beans.

A real shame she settled. It would have been great for the details around this sordid affair to finally be aired. I guess she needed the money more than justice.
Eerr your honour the ex prince took out his sabre and used it knowingly on the said youngster.
How do you plead prince paedophile.
Hahahahaha it's glorious no matter what happens now.

Latest in what I imagine will be months of related media coverage:

From a related, but different media article, specifically speculating the settlement figure.
The weakness of Prince Andrew’s legal position and fears over his own performance in the witness stand left his legal team with few options other than reaching a settlement with Virginia Giuffre that is likely to cost him $10m (£7m) or more, according to several international lawyers.

Ann Olivarius, the senior partner of the McAllister Olivarius law firm who has acted in cases on both sides of the Atlantic, said she expected Prince Andrew’s settlement to be worth at least £10m ($13m), based on previous cases settled with wealthy individuals.

"The size of the compensation is probably massive by any British standards, and it’s probably very substantial by American standards – and American standards are very high," Olivarius said.
"You can anticipate this would be probably in excess of £10m, even £20m perhaps. I don’t know what it is for a fact but as someone who does these agreements all the time it could easily be up there. And frankly it could be far higher."

" Aussie girl takes Prince Andrew to the cleaners " 👍

See the Aussie girl is using the well worn charity* tax minimisation structure:
'A letter submitted to the United States District Court by Ms Giuffre's lawyer on Tuesday said the two parties had "reached a settlement in principle" and that the duke would make a "substantial donation to Ms Giuffre's charity in support of victims' rights".

The total monetary settlement has not been disclosed, but Loyola Marymount University law professor Laurie Levenson says it is likely a seven-figure sum.

"How many millions? We don't know. They're also framing it as some of the money goes to her, some of it goes to charity. But I would be surprised if it wasn't in the millions," she told the ABC.'

This was always about money, it was a civil trial not a criminal trial. Virginia was 17 years old at the time and of age in London where the picture of her with Andrew that went to evidence, was taken.

The danger for Andrew had it gone to trial imo, is that Virginia claimed he knew she was being trafficked and their engagement in London wasn't a one-of. That there were other occasions outside of London where she was trafficked to Andrew and if it was in Florida for example, it would be a criminal offence.

It was for Virginia to decide, not him, whether she would have been prepared to push and take it all the way.

Yeah, how far king hard is it to give up $15M and go on living on the other millions you have? Got off way too easy and that’s the downside of a capitalist system.

Not that I care but Fergie and the girls titles are associated by way of the Duke, to York, so this will impact on them as well. The fallout is huge.

The city’s council also said it would write to MPs to express its concern and discuss “any possible ways of ending Prince Andrew’s connection to York”. A poll by the local newspaper the Press last month found that 88% of the 460 respondents wanted the Duke of York to relinquish his mantle.

Darryl Smalley, a Liberal Democrat councillor and the city council’s executive member for culture, leisure and communities, said after the out-of-court settlement: “Having been stripped of his military roles and royal patronages by the Queen, this should be the end of his direct link with our great city.

... there were growing calls on Wednesday for him to be stripped of the title. Rachael Maskell, the Labour MP for York Central, said Andrew’s involvement in the sexual assault allegations had been a “source of deep hurt and embarrassment” for many people in the city.

17 is legal for a consenting relationship, not prostitution or trafficking. Andrew wouldn't have gone to jail but if it had gone to trial the jury may have found him guilty. That would be a kind of justice IMO.

I wonder if Andrew has admitted to his mum
( probably charles instead ) what really happened , perhaps that is why they are paying up. The whole thing is quite pathetic for all parties involved.

I doubt the Queen ever thought he was innocent, she’s not an idiot.

Reports that Jean Luc has been found dead

Gawd, another prison suicide but this time in France.

Former French modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel, close to American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, was found dead in his cell in the Paris Health prison, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed on Saturday February 19. This same source specifies that an investigation into the causes of death has been opened, entrusted to the 3rd judicial police district.

Accused of rape by several former top models, which he disputed, Jean-Luc Brunel had been arrested on December 16, 2020. He had been indicted the next day for “rape of a minor over 15 years old” and “sexual harassment “, and remanded in custody. He was re-indicted six months later. The former agent had also been placed under the intermediate status of assisted witness, for the facts of “aggravated human trafficking to the detriment of minor victims for the purpose of sexual exploitation”.

When Ghislaine was 'on the run' wasn't she spotted having a meeting with Jean-Luc Brunel in South American somewhere? I wonder why he decided to end it straight after Virginia's settlement with Prince Andrew. Or he was killed now.

Something to do with getting the message that Ghislaine is no longer protecting any of them? Can we expect Dershowitz next?

Love the irony, given this outcome, that he was incarcerated in the 'Paris Health Prison'..!

Probably topped himself as he wasn't happy with the standard of the Yoga classes or poor service in the Wellness Spa..?
