Being a life l,ong ALP supporter, I have to say that one J Mackiln is the political version of a blanc mange.

Listening to her is like enduring an aural lobotomy. To say she is the beneficiary of a factional deal in being deputy leader is an understatement. Any leader knowing she is 2IC would obviously sleep well at night, knowing that that she wasnt a threat in any regard, unless she induced a bout of narcolepsy at the most inappropriate time.

It's so painful. What the hell does she think she's achieving in the job?

Maybe she's trying to overtake Frank Forde as the 'unluckiest' figure in ALP history. Well, sorry Jenny, but two things. Being the first deputy to 'serve' under four leaders doesn't make your career impressive - it makes it downright tragic. Further, Forde actually deserved his week as prime minister. He narrowly lost leadership ballots against John Curtin and Ben Chifley. You, Jenny, have sat back and kept your head down with Simon Crean, Mark Latham and Kim Beazley in the top job. I'll take Forde, thanks.

Didnt you read the responses? She does nothing, is nothing.

ALP followers dont automatically assume everyone is a superb political tactician, unlike some parties supporters

But im sure she's not alone.... yet the hate felt for her is far too strong to be because she 'does nothing'.

I've never heard anyone say they hate her.

I understand 'hate' is a term more suited to those on the rabid right, but we on the left tend to look more closely at ones achievements rather than basic emotional responses

I used dislike in the previous post for exactly this reason. I knew some smart arse poster would come out with a post like this.

But i decided to use the word 'hate' after further reading the post and noticing it went beyond just dislike.

But focus on semantics if you wish, gets us nowhere.

(I dont know how you would explain lefty's feelings towards Bush and Howard, or how you would explain some of the greens policies with their hate of evil corporations and so on as witnessed in countless protests... but feel free to continue living in denial)

Love is a word that is constantly heard,
Hate is a word that is not.
Love, I am told, is more precious than gold.
Love, I have read, is hot.
But hate is the verb that to me is superb,
And Love but a drug on the mart.
Any kiddie in school can love like a fool,
But Hating, my boy, is an Art.

Murray, what happened to the saying "In the ALP if your not hated, you're done nothing" and the other old saying " The ALP are great haters"

maybe thats the problem they have lost the hate:rolleyes:

I just cannot understand how this hopeless non event has kept her position for so long. Is she a cunning bitch behind the scenes or just plain lucky.
The sooner she goes the better.
BTW if fatso flukes his way back Im voting Greens after supporting the ALP for over 40 years.

Bland balncmange is a good likeness. You never remember who she is, she has a monotone voice.Worthless in any political party.

She needs a total makeover.Send on one of those fashionesters, then send her to a speech pathologist to get some distinctions in her voice.

I shared the view of many on here until I recently spoke to a couple of people from her electorate. Over her time holding the seat, she has maintained the vote (small 2PP swings against her in 1996, 2001 and 2004; large 2PP swing to her in 1998). That soes some way to showing that they think that she is a very good local member. The problem is that she does not have the necessary skills to be a leader.

That's the problem with the emphasis on leadership in the media. Our system is set up on the basis of strong local representation. However, the media adopt a 'presidential' focus because it is easier for them (that's not to say that a party's leadership is not important - of course it is). Thus, anyone who is like Macklin is maligned when in many ways she should be lauded.

Correct - being an ardent Greens supporter I realise that they have no faults at all.
A simple philosophy - the Greens just vote no to every bit of legislation ever proposed.

Suberb tactics imho.

Wilson Tuckey and Bronwyn Bishop both have comfortable margins, too. Holding the line in a safe seat is a good thing but it's not the be-all and end-all.

didnt Latham say something about being a great hater?

No doubt Kerr was always high on your Christmas card list.

Actually I don't think I hate anyone.
I immensely dislike numerous people but I think hate is just a waste of energy and acheives nothing

But representing your electorate well can be. The sense I get is that Macklin does.

That's true and she is well liked in the northern suburbs of her electorate.

Jenny suffered from not wanting to take anything away from Kim and in doing so it made her look uninterested and dull.
She is an extremely loyal person, some say she is too loyal for her own good.
