Rumour Jeremy Cameron

You just know if the Hawks get him they'll somehow, for no discernible reason, end up paying unders. The history of other clubs inexplicably bending over for the Hawks and just giving them good players at way under market value is a long and storied one. And annoying as f*ck.

90% sure most other clubs supporters would have exactly the same opinion about our recruiting. The hawks and cats have been destination clubs for a decade now, weve both down well paying unders for quality.

GWS owe Hawthorn for taking Scully off their books. So who knows... if Clarkson goes to Carlton, the Jeremy should go there.

Cameron is going to get even better
He is a modern day star
If we got him on our list, we could be going solidly for another 5 to 8 years
If we don't act soon, and Hawk retires without having a number one forward, we could quickly dissolve
Nope, Cameron being a country lad from Victoria, I think we'd have the upper hand on Hawthorn
Love to see him on our doorstep
Would be magic to have hawkins, cameron, selwood, danger, duncan, maybe even keep Kelly at our club.
And with the best defense in the AFL
I'd give up a lot for Cameron. He's not a Lynch, he is mobile and could alternate with the Hawk up front with goalsquare and leading up the ground
They could have our two first year picks and a couple of players (maybe a Cockatoo deal if he still isn't playing at years end)
Would suit our gamestyle down to the ground
Magic

Not sure we owe them anything. They got the hardest two-way running mid in the comp for nothing. Up and going after a few rounds into the season. If anything, they owe us.

Where are u getting at least a million a year from?

Where are u getting at least a million a year from?

Good question.
If Jezza see's out 2019 and 20 at GWS, Geelong will probably have retired/retiring Ablett, Taylor, Henderson, Scott Selwood.
Hawkins and Joel will be 2 years older and probably happy to take a pay cut in order to stay on.

While it wouldn't ever be easy to find $1m to pay a new player I think it could be manageable if managed properly. Let's not forget Richmond found $1m for Lynch, who would have thought that possible?

Scott Selwood and Smith are both on 450k and going. Hendersons on the same and either going or onto reduced wages.
Taylor and Ablett will either retire or go onto a lower wage next year.
Bews is FA and not certain to stay.
We are setting aside at least 700k for TK who might go.

Our issue with getting Cameron is not $ its whether you are even willing to trade him and whether we can get top end draft picks to facilitate a trade with.

Zac Smith is probably on reasonable money too. Remove him, and keep Fort and Abbott on the mimimal wages they are on, and they would be saving a couple hundred k out of the cap.

Smith signed a 4 year deal when he came across on good money which is partly why he will get delisted as Abbott and Fort are contracted on pretty much base wages and in as good form currently.

Kelly is a draftee, so his wage isn't much at the moment

Geelong would have planned their cap numbers for 2020 on majorly boosting his salary though. So if he goes thats money they had allocated there that can be allocated elsewhere.

Cameron on a backended deal ... sounds like its very unlikely we could fit him in next year.. we would have to find 1.3M ..

BIG BUCKS FOR CAMERON

JEREMY Cameron is set to become one of the highest-paid players in the game next season.

The Greater Western Sydney goal kicker is enjoying a career-best season and has shot well-clear in the Coleman Medal race.

Next year, Cameron is expected to cash-in on a back-ended deal worth in excess of $1.3 million in the final the season of his five-year contract.

It is expected to put the Dartmoor product and 196cm spearhead in the top two or three earners in the league in his free agency season.

Geelong is interested in Cameron as a long-term replacement option for gun veteran spearhead Tom Hawkins, but won’t be caught up in a bidding war.

Cameron was already one of six players to earn more than $1 million a year in 2018, but his biggest payday comes next season.

The Giants want to keep him beyond 2019, but whether they can afford him is another thing.

GWS is trying to fit-in big deals for Josh Kelly, Stephen Coniglio, Lachie Whitfield and Cameron.

If GWS put Cameron up for trade this year, like Dylan Shiel at the end of last season, he would command two first-round draft picks, as a minimum, in any trade deal.

You can restructure the dollars in a longer term deal.

I still think that Scooter will be maintained at Geelong. He is a couple of years younger than Joel and is our best defensive midfielder
But, still a possibility
Is he? Or is that now Atkins?
