Yes it would. What's your point? If only he called somebody a 'stupid white bastard' it would be all ok

He wouldn't have been allowed to do it all himself even if he wanted to. Would have been made to go over it with a fine tooth comb by their PR depertment for media management.nah, it should be something that's clearly been written by himself, and not some pr people trying to make him look good
Finlayson intended it to be a Slur, otherwise why would he have said it?You're not getting the point. Saying it as a slur implies that being gay is something to be ridiculed.

Surely being offended by it subconsciously says the same thing. You think its wrong to get so worked up when someone says a school yard throwaway slur...You're not getting the point. Saying it as a slur implies that being gay is something to be ridiculed.
Funny thing is, back in those days us younguns swore like troopers on the the field, but never off it as there’d always be an older person around to give you a good clip behind the ear, or foot up the arse.Back in the good ol’ days Fin would run his mouth off and get carried off the field on a stretcher.
Footy is SOFT.
Player can and do still swear like sailors on a football field.Funny thing is, back in those days us younguns swore like troopers on the the field, but never off it as there’d always be an older person around to give you a good clip behind the ear, or foot up the arse.
Nowadays you can’t dare throw a few choice words around on a field in the midst of intense physical combat, but off the field it’s completely normal and is some cases acceptable, for youth to use foul language in public, towards their peers or parents.
The world has gone mad.
Yep, totally agree -that's exactly why we still don't have any Aboriginal players in the AFL.
Disappointing you left out woke. And you’re just another PC virtue signalling sheep
You are absolutely correct that context is important. Gay people call each other homophobic words as a kind of satire and disempowers the use of that language when others use it in a derogatory way. It's similar to how black people may call each other the n word. That doesn't make it acceptable for others to call them that. This is a useful reading regarding this.Everyone who is offended needs to watch the southpark episode "the f word"
I've grown up in the lbgt community, my brother was one of the community outreach leaders during the 90s aids fear.
I grew up being taken to drag shows, grew up around all kinds of different lbgt people.
The slanderous terms that comes from their own mouths would shock people.
Should the term have been used - no. Is context important in it, absolutely

The higher rate of suicide in LGBT community means this is all crap.Guaranteed the least offended people out there are going to be actual gay people.
From my experience, the average gay person is mentally tougher and more resilient than the average straight. I’m sure 99% will just roll their eyes and not give it another thought.
I’m more interested in people’s need to go into battle for gays because a footballer happened to say a bad word. To me, this says more about your own homophobia. Like, how weak and pathetic do you really think gays are that they need you, big brave hetero, to protect them from hearing nasty words?
I'm not about people being offended, it's hearing that word used as a pejorative and the message that sends.Guaranteed the least offended people out there are going to be actual gay people.

Who cares?So….. who’s gay?
Who cares?

I take his point though.Player can and do still swear like sailors on a football field.
Just don't use homophobic or racist language and you're fine. It's really easy.
So why did you ask?I’d say the vast majority don’t actually care.
But still there’s no openly gay players in the AFL.
