Rumour Jeremy Finlayson under investigation - 3 game suspension

Surely they have the right to question why their player cops 3 weeks when your coach gets a lightly brush on the knuckles for a very similar incident? That's certainly what I'm asking...
They should be staying quiet and thanking that he didn't get 6 like Tex got for a similar incident.

They simply just words and you could call anyone any name you make up to call. The people today are soft they never win a War if their was a real one they be defeated before they took the beaches, land etc. The mean face is worse the player may want to actually harm you.
This post should be embalmed, and then framed.

Why give a word its power by overreacting? It is a nasty word, but Jeremy Finlayson knows he ****ed up and promptly apologised.

The afl are clearly trying to protect their image but it comes across as self righteous to me.

I may get in some strife for this but feel like it needs to be said.

I and many others I know have used the word Clarkson used flippantly as a word to describe someone who's being an ass, or an idiot (pick your word here). Whilst I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I've personally never heard it really used as to describe someone for its literal definition (or as a homophobic slur). What Finlayson said, there is no conjecture about what that means, everyone knows exactly what that word is and who it upsets.

It's why Clarksons punishment will be the standard for approaching a player in the manner that he did, not for the word he used.
I went i to some detail on another thread to explain to someone why ‘C#$& S@#$+&*/ is homophobic.

I’d never considered it being so myself till I examined it.

I guess if you call someone a ‘bunny rooter’, the Rabbits of this world would feel marginalised (if they could) - so it is logical.

No fan of Small Angry Dwarf (Clarko) but don't think his actions are comparable; "bag of sticks" and "utensil tasting" aren't the same level of hate-speech IMO.

I think a better comparison is TayTay Walker and that was worth six weeks, and he didn't apologise etc.

Floglayson is very lucky IMO.

if you’ve interacted with any LGBTQIA group in the past 5 years it’s used (albeit sparingly) as a term of endearment, when it’s used in a discriminatory manner like this it should be punished. queer is a word that had a similarly derogatory connotation connected to it & has since been reclaimed by queer people.

reclaiming slurs is great for oppressed groups as it works towards removing the discriminatory power that they hold but when they’re used in the manner like this by someone who’s ostensibly not apart of that group, it’s being used in a discriminatory manner (or it intends to be used that way)

if you’re so against his suspension, go call a coworker a homophobic slur at work tomorrow, see if you get sacked for it
The rule is being applied retrospectively and that it totally wrong, wrong, wrong.
It should have used as a warning for all players, meaning in the future it will be a suspension.

The AFL gave Clarko a warning for abusing more than one player and, had it been a Pies player, it would also have been a warning.

i might be misremembering but didnt the AFL themselves not say that they’re not comparable?

Yes but them being self righteous gets them a shit load of government funding.
Program funding for this and that and community this and that etc etc

So they can't have it both ways?
