That is all.

Actually, no it's not. Just finished watching our magnificemtly terrifying but oh so beautifully satisfying game, and with my gunnars up 1-0 with 5 to go, I'm one happy little eaglefan right now.

Share the joy :D

THe match saver award for this game goes to Jeremy Humm for me.

I said it in another thread, but two incidents happened in the final quarter:

1 - Anthony Rocca laid a huge hip and shoudler on him which he didn't even let go of the ball, copped the bump, got rid of the ball, and got straight back up showing he wasn't hurt. We eventually cleared the ball. At the time there was 3 Pies players and 2 Eagles (one which was Humm who was on the ground, rendering him useless had he have not had control of the ball) in the contest.

2 - Collingwood went forward, He was on Tarrant while there was another guy around (I think it was Molloy but nore sure) in a marking contest which Humm won to stop a Collingwood forward run.

Both these incidents saved us this match.

If, in either one of those plays, he had've softened and given the ball up to Collingwood, they would've scored and burried us.

Hummer you are a legend.

Hummer played very well in limited time on the ground. Really gave something in the 4th!! Thought he was going to be knocked unconcious with that Rocca bump...but he just got back up?? Amazing...

I think riding that Rocca bump and not losing the ball was one of the things that really lifted the spirits of the guys. For such a small bloke to be hammered and show such resiliancy surely has to have an impact on the players morale.

Yep totally agree, those two incidents really turned the tide and won us the match imo. He really got us going. He looks to be hard as nails and tough tough tough!! I like the fact he took Tarrant on and was able to beet him. Sheer class imo!

He's a wierd one, is Humm. I didn't think he was actually playing that well, up until midway through the last quarter- he was on Woewodin in the third, and he tore us a new asshole- Humm just had trouble manning up.
Anyway, it all seemed to change after Rocca did his best to push Hummy's brains out his ear. Dunno whether it was because it made him more fired up or maybe it just knocked away the cobwebs, but after that bump he played some excellent footy- seems to be at his best when drifting in front of packs and marking.
Also, loved his bone crunching tackle which got a holding the ball decision. Like a lot of guys who didn't get much during the rest of the game, he really came to play in the last quarter, and was probably one of the reasons we won.

That was Guts, Determination and Courage all rolled into one.
The way he just got up and on with the game really impressed me, most would have looked for the free kick.

humm was one of the guys that I was screaming at to lift. he had done nothing until the last 10 minutes when he really stood up. if only he could do this for more of the game.

i like his style. i don't know if he will get many oportunities this year but i see him in our best 22 in the future.

Yeah we have to rememeber that the kid is only young and still has alot of developing to do! He'll be good though, once he gets some consistency into his game!

I agree with noodle - I was dying for Humm to make an impact on the game when we needed everyone to lift that extra 10% to get us over the line.

When Rocca placed that beauty of a bump on Humma, I was very impressed that he bounced straight up and carried on his business. Very inspirational stuff!

Rocca's bump was no beauty.

That was a high elbow and if he is not reported on video, Eddie is running the tribunal.

Humm was a vital part of the team when it came to winning, to take that bump and just jump back up and continue was fantastic.

At the beginning of the last quarter it showed that he had only played about 20 minutes for the game so was definetly the fresh man on the ground.... good to see him play that way

I disagree

He had his arm tucked in, positioned for a bump. Yes he may have hit Humm high , and yes the elbow may have been the point of contact, but it's clear that the intent was for a fair hip and shoulder, the execution wasnt the best.

Certainly warranted a free kick for high contact, but definitely not reportable.

I suppose you think Richard Cole's masterful bump on Dan Kerr was high too?

2nd worst free kick I have ever seen (behind Jeff Bruce deliberate, Fitzroy v Richmond, 1995).

I didn't tape the game (now wishing I did!) but from what I remember, Rocca did tuck the elbow in and gave Humm the bump side on. If the elbow was lose or he ran straight at Humm he could be in trouble for charging.

I rewound the tape about three times and his elbow is shoulder high, forearm 90 degrees from upper arm. If that is not a strike or a charging then nothing is. Intent doesn't seem to enter into tribunal deliberations...case in point, Phil Matera being shepherded by the umpire vs Melbourne last year.

No I don't have any problems with Cole's bump on Kerr. I don't even remember it. As neither play had any effect on the outcome of the game, I don't really suppose it matters.

When does the video review take place anyway? I reckon Rocca's going to be reported at least.

The bump was fair and Jeremy Humm rode it like he was Damien Oliver! Class stuff.

After all that though he may get dropped for Read this weekend. Humm though has a big future with the club.
