He has 'it'.

Get him off that rookie list now. Tough, doesn't panic, is a nice size, breaks the lines, has a gorgeous left boot (Exhibit A - the bullet pass to Tomahawk on the lead, Exhibit B - that 50m supergoal off one step), and manages the space around him beautifully - the game moves slower for him.

Might struggle for a game when our plethora of half back flankers return, but he could be a useful depth option to play along any of the flanks or the wing if needed.

Agreed. But its hard because Shane Mumford is our nominated rookie so he will get a spot next year im sure.

agree, out of all the youngster trialled so far he is the most impressive.
Makes good decisions and uses the ball very well.
Another Wells gem!!

It's all about Laidler and Hogan for mine. Of all the newbies, they seem to be the most comfortable and most likely to make a genuine contribution.

Has nice skills, if only he had more pace and ferocity. Hopefully he can work on those in the future. The ferocity might just be a lack of fitness. He does have a nice tackle though.

There is no NR this year,is there ? Both Scarlo and Milburn are old farts. The Mummy could take Egan's spot.

Don't forget Motlop is out until late in the year,so there will be a promoted Rookie spot available in the first half of the year.

Hadn't thought about Motlop actually...my understanding was that we would have one elevated rookie at the start of the year, and then after Round 11 another rookie could be elevated. The suggestion was that Mumford would get the latter, with the former possibly going to Ranga - but Laidler now looks the likely candidate.

I agree he has very good attributes moves well and uses the ball well and has height. He could quite easily fit into Geelong's back half or even up the ground. He is one of the most impressive in the pre-season. Simon Hogan has showed some good signs though he made some ripper clangers last night.. TB:)

I think you're right.I remember reading something about that when The Mummy was deciding his future [stay or nominate for the draft] in October/November.With all the rule changes the AFL keep bringing in,it's hard to keep up.

Without Egan and Harley Harry T deeds some help.
Laidler can help against the talls and Mackie will also add height down back.
Remember where not talking 196 just 190cm, Harry 193, Mackie 191, but the kid stretches well for the grab, best of all doesn't panic and has awareness.
I'd be looking to play him as a backline option.

Ferocity is not a problem from where I sit. Goes hard and tough at the ball and man when required.

If he lacks anything, it might be pace. But when the game moves as slowly as it seems to for him, I'd argue it's a weakness well masked.

He is a gun. Only played a couple of NAB cup games and already looks very natural out there. Give him 20+ games and he looks like he could be a very good option for us as a replacement do Dash.

He definitely looks pretty handy out there for you lot, i played footy with him for a few years at Doutta Stars in the EDFL, he was brought into the U/18s from the 16's and had no dramas making an impact....his composure is probably his best asset, along with his hands. And make no mistake, there is a hell of a lot of ferocity, and fire in the belly, it will show in time. I wish him all the best, great bloke :thumbsu:
