Just read the Gov article about ribs and shots, but it's all been well covered here!
So you could assume that everyone, Pies+Demons, were targeting Gov-kneeing etc, whatever it took...
footy is so unfair like that....;)
The Governator, what a legend!

Combines the marking/intercepting of Harris Andrews with the skills of Lewis Jetta and the courage/desperation of Rance. We're probably never going to get a KPD like him again

I didn't notice much about his kick-ins during the season but his long range passes are bloody elite

Sits comfortably around the Jakovich and Dean Cox level, just a whisker behind the bearded Jesus.

Just being compared to Spangher should be considered the highest of praise.

One of the things to remember with Gov as a KPD is that he was only thrown in to the role when we lost all our KPDs by then end of round one of 2015 - in 2014 he'd been playing mostly as a forward/swingman.

Glass had retired at the end of 2014, Eric Mackenzie had done a knee pre-season and Mitch Brown did a knee in the opening minutes of the first match of the year (and never really came back). Gov was drafted in to fill those holes - and it turned out he was the best of the lot.

In the backchat podcast, Simpson talked about trialling Go. down back in the WAFL during 2014 because he could read the play so well

They were working on a zoning off defence that went into turbo mode after the ACLs to Mackenzie and Brown

It's a particularly sad way for a career to end, especially since he falls just short of 200 games – hope he's able to get on top of it and not have it affect him too much over the rest of his life.

Absolutely brilliant footballer who impacted games in a way that very few defenders can – all the best to him.
