Categorically was. Better in his prime, better over his career, better lad. Somehow managed to get respect from the Vicco nuffs in a way that EMac (who was also GOATed) didn't.

Sad day for the club.

Gov retired on medical grounds after he gave it his all and Rance retired because he decided he liked organised religion more

Emac just unlucky he would have got the recognition but did his ACL and that not only allowed Gov to come out of the cluds and take his spot but become one of the games key backs. Just shows you how cut throat the game is cause in 12 months he went from being one of the games best key back to fighting for his spot. It also didn’t help that TB was emerging from the shadows. You

Everyone mentioned Sheed as the 2018 GF hero. To me there are a few players involved and it started with McGovern's excellent intercept mark followed by the accurate timely delivery forward.

Just quietly, I'm reluctant to go to any more games at Optus, the way our luck's going it'll probably collapse when we've got 40,000 sitting there watching the game. Harsh as it may seem, I'm sure the Vic commentators would be more focussed on something equally tragic........e.g. Nick Daicos being kept to a career low 15 possessions.

The man the myth the legend!!
I feel so sad today for not only a player of the highest quality but a person of the highest quality.
He did it the hard way, almost delisted, got fit and turned the AFL defensive system on its head.
He transformed the way defending happened, his ability to intercept and read the play was extraordinary and made teams work out how to play around him.
Never gave up the fight to win his contest and the game, broke many many parts of his body on the way and just kept doing it.
No words can justify how lucky we were to witness his career.
As someone who has followed this club since its inception, I can only feel the same way about 2 players in this clubs history and they are both back man, Woosha and Gov.
A true champion of the game and a legend of the WCE footy club.

We’ll have 5 left by years end (maybe 4). 06 winning side that had 6 players left on the aide in 2014 and that side had a massive clean out of players after a cultural change

Gutted, for selfish reasons.

I gave away my membership mid 90's after being a member in the late 80's.

I would have moved heaven and earth to be at a farewell game for him, if he was awarded that luxury.

I hope he is able to contribute to football in some manner as he is very sharp. But ultimately health is the most important thing in life and I hope he can live some kind of normal life and have minimal impact with these concussions.

Words cannot describe what a pleasure it's been to watch him, even if he was on an opposing team. Just an immovable man mountain, a God amongst us.

I'll never forget. Thank you McLovin. A footballers football. A legend.

Brave to a fault. It wasn’t just concussions that he suffered but a countless number of significant blows around his rib cage because of his willingness to put himself in vulnerable positions

An outstanding interceptor who’s ability to launch counterattacks with his disposal was underrated- possibly due to his penchant to occasionally bite off more than he could chew

Changed the game from 2015-19 when he was at his peak. Could have been AA 7-8 times if not for injuries across 2020-23

All time great of not only the club, but the AFL

Devastated for him, and sad he didn’t get to 200 games, but his post footy life is so much more important.

Bled for the club, his actions on and off field speak for themselves. I hope we find some way to incorporate him into the club off field (if he wants it).

Hope he enjoys retirement all the same.
