Regarding the Magic comparisons.. I dont think you can really go for anyone except Lebron here. Odom was considered the new Magic Johnson before he was drafted (just like Tyson was the next Rasheed, Butler the next Pierce etc) but I think this season has proven his best position is at PF. He played point forward at Clippers and really wasnt that effective. I see him like a bit of a C-Webb type except more athletic.

Carmelo I consider Glenn Robinson with a killer instinct. Big Dog could have been an absolute superstar if he had the right mentality... Carmelo is going to be amazing... hes 19 years old averaging 21 ppg.. what else do you want?

Lebron is better than Carmelo, but for Carmelo to be even considered a possible rookie of the year chance with Lebron also a rookie speaks very highly of him. Lebron is incredible, in 2 years time he will be the best player in the NBA.

I don't disagree,

the only thing I would raise is the Odom as PF, which he has certainly played more of this year than anything else. Magic was not a conventional point, he brought the ball down, but rather than setup the offence, he would often setup in the high post, as his size and passing would facilitate that.
Odom also has the ability to bring it down, though he is doing that less today, and to pass out of both posts.
I am not sure Magic would have the ability to play point in today's league much more (though some of course) better than Odom, in that it is a grinding half court game requiring better play making rather than the single pass running showtime of his era. He never was a drive and dish point, or a conventional playmaker. not disparaging him of course, but more commenting on the style of play that allowed him to play point - and 3 more spots plus!

The other thing to remember is that similarity to a player, is not the same as saying as good as.

Btw if Carmelo defends as well as big dog, then he's in trouble!

Right now Carmelo is propably just a little bit better defensively than Big Dog.. which is pretty bad. I'd say Carmelo early on in the season was one of the worst defenders in the NBA.. but hes improving.

Big Dog if he had a good mentality and work ethic and worked on his D... that along with his deadly mid range game would make him an absolute superstar...each to their own I guess. Same goes for Robert Horry who was content being a defensive specialitst when he couldve been the next Scottie.

Funny how we're arguing the merits of players who are all gonna be superstars... a bit like saying, "hmmm... would you prefer a million dollars in platinum or a million dollars in gold". :)

BUT...

With all due respect to Jason Kidd, Lamar Odom, Lebron and Carmelo... KOBE and KG are head and shoulders above everybody else in the league (with the possible exception of Shaq and Duncan).

KOBE - there is nobody, and I mean NOBODY in the league who is as completely unstoppable as Kobe (not even KG). You can be all over the guy and he will just drain in your face without breaking a sweat. Just ask the self-designated "Kobe-stopper", Ruben Patterson. There is no other player in the league that I want holding the ball in the closing minutes of a tight game than Kobe. He is THE most clutch player in the league - period.

KG - what more needs to be said about this year's MVP? The guy is the 3rd leading scorer in the league AND the league's leading rebounder. Added to that he has the most double-doubles in the league, and the fact that he has been getting these kinds of number for the past 5 or 6 years. With career stats of 20ppg/11rpg/4.5apg/1.7bpg, very few in the history of the league compare to that. He is also a 4-time All Defensive Player.

Lebron's 20-5-5 on a team like the Cavs (where he HAS to do everything) is remarkable but he will not end up any better than KG.
