We also picked up the "The Slav" from St Kilda due to Fox wanting him to live in Melbourne. When Jezza left, it was a bit surreal, I hardly saw Jezza other than the 1979 season when i first started going each week, but he was a God and worshipped by the Carlton faithful. When he left it was a case of why, I didnt quite understand it - i do know as it was loyalty to George Harris.

You were right though we were compeletly written off, i went to the game thinking we were going to get belted. I was standing behind the Carlton cheersquad and loved the game and we FLOGGED THEM.

A few mates and I were chased after the game by a few feral pies supporters (we were only aged between 11 - 14 years old) through the streets until we got to Johnston St and caught the bus home, that was funny as they were too tanked to catch us, we kept stopping and taunting them, and the idiots chased us and were throwing bottles, rocks etc at us.

Of course Jezza came back to coach again later and Simon Minton-Connell was there at the time and told me he was a @#%@! - total slave driver had them pulling tractor tyres at training etc

Was gutted when Jezza left, remember him wearing number 5 at the Aints then changing to 25, think thats why i still hate them to this day.

i remember it well, it was just so hard to understand as a 12 year old kid that grew up with jezza as my favorite player. the worst thing was it cost us a premiership as percy jones was appointed coach, a nice fella but not in jezza or parkin's league as a coach. that would have given us 4 flags in a row and equalled the record. and we would be ahead of essendon

I made the comment because the combination had a nice ring to it. Nothing more to it than that. And, incidentally, I have been one of those sticking up for JR against his critics here.

Next time you slag off at a fellow supporter I'd suggest you actually take the time to know what you are talking about. Because in this instance you had NFI.
