Wonder if anyone is old enough to remember how it felt when he walked out on the club? Looks like we will lose Fevalenko too ;)

Would be ironic if Fev ended up at the Saints.

I remember. I was still a kid and he was my hero. Was very hard to fathom but the next year the Blues were still standing and I was still as passionate as ever. Fortunately he went to a lowly club at the time so it didn't bite us too hard.

I had the same feeling about Hamill. So glad he spent his days at St Kilda injured... :D

Yeah, the Hamill move still angers me to this day after all the club did for him.
I can't stand hearing his voice when he is on MMM.

I wouldn't resent Fev for moving though... Only Hamill and St. Kilda after they shafted us with Sam Cranage

I was very young and my family was shattered....

But, we then won back to back Premierships so all will be good!!!!!:D

I wasn't alive, my mother was. I was just wanting to know how bad it was.

The only thing with Fev that annoys me is that he obviously has a problem, and it seems like the club hasn't done right by him. Giving him more chances doesn't help an alcoholic.... (well not an alcoholic, but someone who obviously cannot control themselves when they get on it)

My grandpa was on the board as treasurer on the time but I obviously wasn't born. He told me the whole story though.

I know a few of my mates started supporting other clubs and still do to this day. I followed Jezza at the saints very keenly .as was mentioned we went on to more G/Fs and the saints were low so no real damage that why I'II be happy for Fev at a low club where he won't hurt us too much. Would hate him in a Pie jumper

I remember it well :( as per usual there was a woman involved :P Jezza's miss's told him to back George Harris on some sensless matter at an agm. The rest is history, I see jezza from time to time hanging out at the TAB on Queen Street in the city.... Hope Fev doesn't end up @ the pub next door :(

I remember some of this very well except I was too young at the time to really understand why Jezza left. The first game of VFL I ever remember watching (on telly) was the 72 grand final I must have been almost 7 - my dad was a Tigers supporter so I started following the Blues. Jezza dominated in that game kicking 7 which was the record for a long time. I was going to get a jumper with 25 on it but I liked Big Nick too and less sewing for mum meant I went with 2 on the back of my first ever Blues jumper.

I recall the 79 grand final much better being a teenager I was really into footy by then and Jezza was Capt/Coach, it was wet & we started very badly and he got taken off on a stretcher but we won in a thriller.

Back then we had stars coming thru regularly - everyone wanted to play for the Blues - plus we'd be in the finals almost every year. It was a hard, sometimes dirty game very good to watch and the players were the ones in the spotlight - the one umpire was incidental - good days!!

Of course Jezza came back to coach again later and Simon Minton-Connell was there at the time and told me he was a @#%@! - total slave driver had them pulling tractor tyres at training etc

Jezza was 34 when he followed George Harris out the door. Fev has another 300 plus goals in him at least - BIG difference. :(

Jezza was my idol growing up, he was an unbelievable player.

When he left it was a kind of numb feeling but it felt more like he had retired. Probably being past his prime it was similar to Peter McKenna playing for us and Doug Hawkins going to Fitzroy for a year.

A bit different to a guy at 28 or 29 who could line up with black and white stripes and really break your heart. Can you imagine Joffa putting on the gold jacket as he kicks his eighth with shots of other ugly people hugging each other in the crowd?

I don't think I can boo the Fev so I just won't be able to watch...

My initial reaction when Jezza left was one of wondering if I could follow the club without the presence of Jezza (he had been there the whole time I had followed the Blues). The thought of Carlton without Jezza seemed too much to cope with.

After an off-season pondering what I would be doing, if not following the Blues, Round 1 rolled around & I quickly got into the swing of supporting the Blues for another season. This was when I knew the jumper was what I supported, not individuals.

Our club will continue to function without Fev, but his departure from the club isn't a done deal by any stretch of the imagination.

Remember the in between bit, when Percy Jones first took over and we played South/East Fremantle??? in Perth as part the Night Series in March 1980.

Think they used to use them as pre-season games, anyhoo we were still reigning premier and got utterly belted by around 16 goals, and Wayne Harmes did his ankle.

Thats when they all started coming out of the woodwork, and i thought god we are stuffed. Shocking time that was.

The media were predicting a massive fall from grace for the Blues after that game, forgetting that pre-season/practice games weren't taken very seriously by the club in those days. In fact you would be more concerned if we won games in the pre-season back then.
