Freo would have been aware they were getting a ‘fixer-upper’. The guy came with baggage and he will likely require a few Peter Bell statements to the press over the coming years.

Clubs don’t put 23 year old gun key forwards on the trade table without a reason.
Fremantle were entirely aware of his issues according to Caroline Wilson on Footy Classified last night. As per my earlier post, Melbourne were keen to keep him but needed him to buy in and re-sign. Jesse wouldn't take. I think the club wasn't keen on going through the sideshow in 2019, but I wouldn't say he was being pushed out.

Quick summary of thread:

- Typical West Coast fans on their high horses having a job
- Various other club fans either having a dig/showing concern
- Melbourne fans hoping Jesse gets the help he needs

If he's struggling with anxiety I can relate. I've seen friends go too hard, too fast with clinical anxiety and/or depression in an attempt to aleviate it. Now imagine that 'that friend' is on hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. He's doing what anyone else would do in his situation (most people anyway). Not defending his actions at all - but at the same time when I've seen mates struggling, I haven't gone straight up to them after they've sobered up and wrapped them on the wrist and told them they've made a bad choice - you pick them up and try and help them.
Your list is one short - the media.
I trust Peter Bell far more than the media.

I guess you could add Freo paranoia as well:)

All well and good to make light hearted jokes etc but in all seriousness Jesse is very likely at a crossroad in his life right now not
Yeah, clear physical characteristics of taking MDMA. Jaw/eye wobbles, grinding your jaw etc. Best drug there is imo
Speed and meth get the jaw going as well.

Always thought Melbourne were winners in this trade given the certain 'baggage'/uncertainty around him.
IMO he hasn't even really developed much from his 1st year of footy when he won the rising star...hasn't really improved.

If Freo allegedly knew about his issues, they shouldn't have paid so much in the trade.
Off track for the theme of this thread but this is completely incorrect. He played a different role the past couple of years and he excelled at it. Much better up the ground and his field kicking improved by a huge margin. Plus he increased the distances he was covering. Much better player than his rookie year.

I just find it amazing how as society gets so liberal with the term 'mental illness' and as drugs also become more accepted among young people, we get footballers come out as mentally ill. Yet we also see as many on snapchats and group chats snorting lines and drinking a day before a game.

I dunno, businessmen and lawyers with image on the line have governed the AFL for a while, but ya know... I also get the feeling most of these blokes are taking the complete piss.

In the history of the game, men have come back from war, have worked a job from 6-4 then trained after it and played for basically beer money...

Very hard to take for the average young man who is struggling.
And people's mental well-being is understood much better since this time.

Osteitis Pubis strikes again. Everyone with a sore groin in the 2000's gets checked out by a dr and get diagnosed with Osteitis Pubis.

Any AFL footballer who gets caught out for drinking/drugs/being a dickhead goes to a dr and gets diagnosed with depression/anxiety.

Yep, they’d be the sort of club that would openly do lines of coke at The Emerson celebrating a Grand Final win. They’d do it in pretty much full view of the executives of the club even after the horrific drug issues they have had in the past.
It’s a shame they don’t follow the lead of West Coast whom would never do anything like the above.......
Yes you are correct, 12 years ago we had huge issues which we stuffed up on. 12 years later and probably from learning a few lessons we are arguably the best run club in the league in all areas.
No club is exempt from players doing the wrong things but Fremantle seem to be having a few with their new recruits and they don’t seem to be able to do much about it. Such a shame as they would be so much better with these guys on the park than having to sit out because of stupid indiscretions like this.

I am gunna bite.

Who is to say when it started? Maybe he thought going home to WA surrounded by family may help him?

You ever been around a loved one / family member or close friend with serious alcohol addictions?

Your comment reeks of WA arrogance towards a team you don’t like.
Has it been confirmed that he is struggling with alcoholism?

Or are we jumping the gun here a bit

The press is gonna drown in this over here, sorry WC the spotlight is no longer on you (not sure if sorry is the right word).

Me thinks Belly needs to get hard at this club, if Jesse was at a "harder" club (like under a Clarko for example) my fair assumption is he wouldn't have been on the drink last Saturday night.
Didn't Hodgey get on the drink and get caught drink driving at the Hawks? and that was as captain so it does happen under a "harder" club

I know i know.. us WC people having employment - how dare we

I know it's different on the streets of Cockburn where they are just hoping Bill Shorten gives them more welfare.

(and yes i'm aware it was a typo)

Another injury through Elboitus Liftus...
Clinical anxiety comes in pints these days.

Seriously though hope he gets better.
There are enough drug, alcohol and depression cases in the AFL.
