Jesse Hogan(mini-draft)- priority for us

A couple of years as a rookie Freo will know if Moller is worth keeping while not clogging the main list. I would have liked to draft Hogan or Martin but really at what cost to the club. Lets just hope Freo pick well in the draft. ;)

Tell you what though, with the number and quality of ruckmen the kid will be learning off and competing against... he'd be crazy to go anywhere else.

Imagine what it'll do for his development to learn from guys like Sandi, Griffin and Clarke (similar background in basketball) and be coached by RTB and Spider Burton. He seems to have the talent... and if it's there, our coaches and his training partners will help him find it.

The one thing we been strong in for a good decade or so is in ruckmen. Great place for the kid to learn the trade.

You actually think the AFL is run fairly and well? And you think the mini-draft has been a success?

Man I told you guys this last year and this year early.

If we were GWS we would be doing the same. These kids were always going to go for high picks. Melbourne might have paid overs but really it was always going to turn out like that.

Moeller + Ibbo + Lower + a second rounder + Clem Michaels knee brace was never, ever going to be good enough.

The AFL trade site indicated that Fremantle and GWS have gone off for coffee together at the end of the day. Very interesting, but just can't see how we would be in a position to offer anything that passes pick 3# let alone any additional thing those crazy folk down at Melbourne FC will offer. Maybe we have another potential trade (mature age) with them??

I suspect that might be the case. GWS needs more mature bodies with experience. We could package a few bodies, that would help GWS build the club. If you only have potential and not enough experience you'll end up with Melbourne and a losing culture. Surely going out every week and being flogged hurts the development of a club.

Has Melbourne offered pick 3, I don't think they have. We would be competing with the bulldogs who will likely throw pick 5 at them for Hogan.

I'm hoping that GWS have said: "We want Craig Moller."
Chris Bond said: "Well, we want Jesse Hogan, how much do you want Craig?"
Silvani says: "Let's chat about it over coffee."

Tomorrow morning we will see. I have no hope, but it would make a great football story.

Dees close in on Hogan, Dawes

Jesse Hogan could be a Demon next year via the GWS mini-draft
TODAY'S VIDEOS
MELBOURNE is on the brink of securing 17-year-old West Australian forward Jesse Hogan, and is also moving closer to signing Collingwood's Chris Dawes.

The Demons' ability to use their second round selection (number 26 overall) at this year's NAB AFL Draft on father-son prospect Jack Viney has opened up a number of options for the club.

The Demons may offer their prized pick three in the draft to Greater Western Sydney for the second selection in the mini-draft (the first was earlier traded to Gold Coast, which picked Jack Martin).

The Demons would use their mini-draft selection to acquire Hogan, who starred at this year's NAB AFL Under-18 Championships but isn't eligible to debut until 2014.

Final mini-draft explained

Although details around the trade still need to be sorted, and more picks could be swapped between the clubs, Melbourne list manager Tim Harrington said the Dees were closing in on a deal.

"We've made some positive inroads today, so we're very optimistic and positive that a deal will be done within a short period of time," Harrington said on Monday afternoon.

couldnt care about not getting lee... but i really had hopes that we could manage a deal for the MD pick 2 and get hogan. This is really quite depressing. if shaw and stringer go before our pick 16, we could yet again be left without a young, decent Key Forward to develop..... it really grinds my gears

Agree, but they can only do this because they are useless.
However, a forward line of Dawes, Clarke, Black and Hogan is a bit scary for the future.

Which Black is that? Aaron? Is North thinking of trading him or something?

No doubting that, it will be a quality forward line.

However, this system of rewarding uselessness, Sydney having an extra $900,000.00 salary cap for cost of living (been to Perth lately Andrew?), compensation being provided to clubs that lose free agents, GWS and Gold Coast getting 70% of the first round draft picks is a shambles and highlights a major flaw in the game.

Yep, it's gross.

I agree totally. Pisses me right-off.

not to mention our idiot recruiters have refused to entertain drafting any form of KPP in the last 3 years.... for all the love for bond and lloyd, seriously, blind freddie could see we are short in this area. Bond and Lloyd could undo any good work they may have done with this short-sightedness.....

that might be a bit unfair, but it is seriously pissing me off that we have put ourselves in this position.... we can blame the expansion teams and compromised drafts all we want, but we have screwed ourselves by not investing in talls for the future

I THINK GWS MUST BE INTERESTED IN WHAT FREMANTLE HAS TO OFFER OTHERWISE THEY WOULD HAVE ALREADY TAKEN PICK 3 FROM MELBOURNE

We'll see. Not convinced they didn't have a plan B is the Hogan thing didn't pan out. Bond said on 6pr the other afternoon that (wait for it) the list is in very good shape. They don't seem as panicked as what we are. Rightly or wrongly.
Don't forget Moller is a forward/ruck and was considered to be a top 15 prospect in this draft. so we have already recruited 1 for the future if we keep him.

i truly hope you are right.... but the reports seem pretty damning... melbourne seem home and hosed... the fact that the tanking scum in melbuorne only had to give up pick 26 for viney hasnt bloody helped either

the problem, the way i see it, is that you cant recruit a key forward and expect them to step up straight away, you need to develop them over time... we have 24 months to begin a succession plan for our aging stars, otherwise we will end up in the same situation as the bulldogs.... That comment by Bond, "the list is in very good shape" is a really concerning comment for me... we dont have any young KPP prospects... that is not indicative of a healthy list IMHO

Correct, he has fallen out of peoples draft calculations as the club has requested he sit out the last two thirds of the season to rest some niggles he was managing. He tested in the realm of freakish athlete for his size after the u/16 titles and and heavy workloads are not always the best thing for growing youths (especially huge ones) without strict supervision.

Or maybe the GWS officials are waiting to see how stupid Melbourne actually are. Think about it this way. What can we possibly offer that is equivalent to pick 3 in this years draft?

What a wonderful system the AFL has. Allow tanking, then on top of that... Allow your compensation picks to be straight after yours... No wonder Melbourne and the Bulldogs didnt bother showing up to games all year...

Would be nice to think we would consider ringing Jack Watts' manager and throw him a bucket load of money and the opportunity to have coaches who will actually teach you how to utilise your talents

Clarke/Moller + Broughton/Ibbotson.... Or throw our 1st rounder into that mix...

As much as GWS will be happy to get flogged while they accumulate draft picks, the fact is they will also have to start winning games in their market so older will players will still be on their radar
