Father and son and these mini-draft picks are a godsend to eligible or low placing clubs. We have never been able to utilise either unless you count the Peake F&S.

This is all about the Scully (over-)compo. A direct result of the expansion teams coming into the comp. Two first round picks for that kn0b. (on top of their standard pick 3 for just being sh!t)

Melbourne are now professional tankers, that have worked hard and dilligently to earn high draft picks by being sh!t. After this many years of wasting that advantage by drafting sh!t players, they've finally got their act together and appear to be picking up some decent players.

Time will tell though. They could still f*ck it all up and have this year's draftees leave screaming in a couple of years.

Bootsma ruling was unlucky given he'd played over 150 when combining FFC & Souths. But I guess AFL looked at it and our financial position and said yeh nah..

He will probably end up turn out being a dud now. Poor guy.
We were just generally shit in our times of being down at the bottom, Melbourne are a combination of being pretty bad and just deliberately losing games to get picks. But just did it for a much longer time. Surely they are bound to do something good with them? I don't know how I am gonna enjoy the AFL with the likes of Melbourne, GWS and GC being consistently strong teams. I'm sure the AFL will look after the teams that struggle when they begin being strong teams....

Not a chance.

Geez I hope this happens.

Damnit! It's only Tuesday so there's still plenty of water to pass under the bridge but Hogan looks like he'll be a beauty. We should pursue Gumbleton now. Bondy and Lloyd have a good strike rate with mature agers so here's hoping they got some solid contingency plans.

I'll believe it when I see it.

you can draft all the talent you want, but if you don't have the coach or the culture to strive for the top of the mountain it's not going to happen. These teams I believe either don't have the culture or the coach to get to a grand final, or just generally play consistent footy in the next few years.

I wish people would stop bringing up Bootsma. We had plenty of opportunity to pick him up and we didn't because we obviously didn't rate him.

carlton took him as a second rounder didnt they? with a father son selection we probably could have gotten him as a third rounder as a steal, like what melbourne did with viney... anyway, it didnt happen, so no point worrying about it

Spot on. But on the bright side, we got neale instead. Not too shabby.

Not true. We just didn't think he was worth pick 20 or our recruiters thought Crozier was best available. A lot of the phantom drafts had us taking him at pick 29 but he was gone before then to Carlton. If the club didn't rate him then they wouldn't of lobbied the AFL to select him under the father/son rule in the first place.

But yeah, it doesn't matter anymore.

what drives me insane about this hogan deal. is that they have given up two first round picks before our pick 16, they pick up a gun young forward, a speedy, skilled midfielder and they still get a pick in the top 20, ony 4 positions behind us

That's what we thought when they got Scully and Trengove too...
