Probably worth remembering he did have stress fractures in his foot. Some even believed he may not play again. So solid start to the year for mine.

Can also attribute some of Taberner’s and McCarthy’s start to his inclusion. Call it competition for spots or freeing these guys up.

It’s all win win Melbourne guys. You got your defender to take you to the next level and Weiderman and McDonald can now shine... cough... cough.

Spot on article

Hogan is still building at the Dockers but has already taken 31 marks and kicked four goals in four games, despite time in the midfield. And Matt Taberner has produced some of his best football in the past fortnight playing alongside the former Demon. Is that a coincidence? I doubt it.

On Saturday, Hogan pulled down 14 marks and kicked three goals as he and Taberner combined for 27 marks and six majors in the shock win over flag contenders Greater Western Sydney on the road.

Melbourne sacrificed Hogan to snare defender Steven May,who has already been slammed by coach Simon Goodwin for the shape he arrived in.

Trades can never be judged on a few weeks. But those who were sniggering at Fremantle should be thinking twice.

Well so far the Demons are wiping egg off face.

All of a sudden opposition don't need to plan for Hogan and instead concentrate on McDonald and a kid in Weiderman who all of a sudden is asking big $$ to re-sign.

At Freo the other KP forwards are having best ever years.

At least the Demon hype has died off.

Not handling the tougher draw this season at all well!;)

We are playing awful, Got nothing to do with the tougher draw we haven't even played some of the real good teams in Coll WCE GWS and Rich yet.

I don’t get the Melbourne shouldn’t have traded Hogan talk. The bloke has been through hell and whilst we supported him greatly, it would have been terribly harsh in him to reject a trade request. If he didn’t want back to WA he’d still be a demon.
On the trade value, we got well unders. It can be judged in the wellness of time though as we haven’t got May for yet. Also you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think his off field antics were a factor in his trade value.

Yeah not sure Melbourne's plight has anything to do with Hogan (and IMO he wouldn't be making a significant difference). Also, not sure you can judge this 5 games into, what both teams would be hoping, will be at least 5+ years of service from the respective players.

Did Hogan request a trade?

That doesnt mean he wanted to go at this time. I recall him saying one day he would consider it.

The question is did they tap him on the shoulder and give him a knudge out the door?
No doubt Melbourne didn’t push him on it and try and keep him. But I don’t doubt he asked the club to explore the trade last year.

So which is it? Did you get unders, or did you get the correct trade value due to other factors? I think the second, which includes his injury status.

On the face of it we got unders. But we need to see what a fit may can do. It should have been 2 firsts in any event. But as I said the off field stuff gets taken into account.

Last year Melbourne was awesome. They are putrid so far this season.

Shame. I was liking their style last year. They are hurting my eyeballs tonight.

Anyway, this is about Hogan... we slaughtered that trade at this stage.

I agree.
