Dire consequences if Freo don’t get the deal done.
It will almost rule out them as a destination club for at least 5 years. We’ve already seen Kelly would rather live away from his family than go to the club.

Except that article supports the idea that there MAY be legitimate reasons why Freo haven't rushed to sign over what Melbourne was asking and what probably seemed like a fair price 12 months ago.

The Neale deal will get done.

A player moving out is different. You have a good history of that Clement st al.

Peter Bell remains the best player to move to Freo, followed by Modra and Zac Dawson.

“At the end of the season, Jesse expressed his interest to explore other opportunities, and to return to Perth and play for Fremantle. We believe our offer was reasonable given Jesse’s record as a 71-game player,” General Manager of football operations Josh Mahoney told Melbourne Media.

“Jesse has been with us since he was 17 and has gone through some well-documented personal issues, particularly in the last two years, so we were comfortable to support his request.

“It was made clear to Jesse that if we were unable to complete an appropriate deal for both clubs, he will remain a Melbourne player.

“Both us, and Jesse, were happy with this.”
He explored an opportunity, I still don’t see where he’s requested a trade or expressed a desire to return to Perth. Josh Thomas explored Sydney, Dustin Martin explored GWS, doesn’t mean they want to move clubs. It does seem Melbourne want him out the door to get May.

So pretty much the opposite to what Belly did on Friday eh?

Bell and Rosich both made the only statements we have got to rely on:
Freo’s first, second and third priority is to keep Lachie Neale if possible.
Hogan’s attraction is obvious, but Freo has to go through due diligence.

On Friday, Bell cut through the bullshit that was swirling around - Freo makes insulting offer, Freo delaying all other trades, Freo being hypocritical, Freo know what they have to provide for this deal to go ahead, and called Melbourne’s bluff. No more bullshit, no more linking Neale with Hogan.

It may be that Melbourne are actually happy to keep Hogan for a year. Or longer if they can get a deal done. Good on them. Freo now has a spread of first and second round picks that they can use to trade for Lobb and take to the draft. And if they do trade Neale, then they will have more picks to trade before the deadline or use themselves. And if Melbourne come back to the trade table (because Freo have more picks available if the Neale trade goes through or because Melbourne are willing to negotiate), then that would be good too.

He doesn’t want to go home. He hasn’t requested a trade. This is Melbourne politely pushing him out the door now that he’s somewhat surplus to requirement and they need to fix other areas of the list. Poor form from Melbourne trying to dress it up as player welfare.

This is just clearly a lie. See the Mahoney quote, which has been confirmed elsewhere. This is entirely coming from Hogan's side, and Melbourne have been doing what they can to facilitate a deal in response to his personal situation.

Read the the first sentence again. All the way to the end. Don’t be fooled by those tricky commas...

Nah. The quote on the Melbourne website was revisionist.

Try the quotes from the 8th Oct:
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-10-08/hogan-call-first-then-demons-will-look-at-may

At that stage, Mahoney was clear that Hogan hadn’t decided he wanted to go. Mahoney was graceful enough to say it was his choice, but when he decides we’ll be able to trade in May.

Heh. Quite the twist on what was said on Friday by Bell...

"As such, we have informed Melbourne and Jesse’s management that we will not be continuing further with the due diligence process."

Freo has backed out of the trade, not Melbourne.

It’s up to the buyer to satisfy the seller. A difficult concept for some to understand it seems.

Pick 18 plus something to Brisbane for Beams.

Picks 5 and 18 to Fremantle for Neale.

Picks 5 and 18 to Melbourne for Hogan.
Brisbane must rue that 2014 trade.

Brisbane got Beams and #65 (Josh Watts. Delisted without playing a single game).

Collingwood got #5 (De Goey) and #25 (on-traded for Greenwood) and Jack Crisp (played 92 of a possible 92 games since being traded).
